I've been this way regarding anime for years. Space Dandy and Kill La Kill were so bad and disappointing I officially stopped watching anime as a hobby. I think that was in 2013 or so. I haven't really watched anime since. Until now.

I've always had an appreciation for more serious anime. This is hardly new. My favorite anime has always been a serious period piece samurai epic. I'm not sure what you're expecting from me but I have never been one to like overly fantastical or silly anime unless it's a comedy like Guu or Cromartie or whatever.

Planates is good. Lots of anime fluff and silly bullshit for something with that kind of premise, but it hits a homerun where it needs to.

I only made it like 2-3 eps into Space Dandy. Which is a shame because I fucking love Champloo & Bebop. Kids on the Slope was kinda so-so though.

Those are easily the weakest episodes in the entire 26-episode run. I'll keep bringing this up anytime someone chimes in about how much they think Space Dandy sucks, because it's a show that gets progressively better pretty much with each new episode.

First season is a strong 8/10 [mostly due to the weaker earlier episodes], while the second season is a 9/10 [since it has no bad episodes and the finale is great].

Space Dandy is basically an anthology show, doesn't each episode have a different director or something? There are definitely some pretty dull episodes but the highs are really, really good. Episode 9 on the plant planet is one of my favorite episodes of anything ever.

Yeah, each episode essentially has a completely different team [director, writer, animation director, storyboard artist], so there's a lot of differences between individual episodes.

I really liked Love Hina as a teen. WHO IS KEITARO GOING TO END UP WITH? My gateway to romance manga. Love Hina was actually my first manga. I was reading Kare Kano and Marmalade by the end of the year lmao. We were reading the bilingual Japanese ones. Kawaii neeeee.

I stopped watching Dandy at ep 5 I think. It certainly got better. The ramen restaurant at the end of the universe ep was good, and the zombie ep was hilarious, but for the most part it failed the 5 ep test and I had no motivation to keep watching due to the fanservice, zero characterization;etc. I deduced it wasn't my kind of anime and hung up my anime fan jacket soon after.

Since the themes can greatly differ from episode to episode, this wasn't exactly the kind of show one could pass judgement on after just a handful of eps.

Also doesn't give a lot of hope for the remaining 2 films in the trilogy.
