Escaflowne, together with DBZ and Cowboy Bebop, was what brought me to anime proper. Anime that I was watching before these shows were just cartoons for me.

Nostalgia aside, it's still one of my favorite anime shows. Like toku said, everything comes together. I don't think animu today is really able to produce another believable protagonist like Hitomi, without making her either an overpowered badass or some weak damsel - and perving on both of these types in the process.

A Place Beyond the Universe is also good.

The latest episode of Pop Team Epic is the pentacle of mankind’s achievements.

Darling in the FranXX is still trash and so am I.

I’m not saying those are the four best shows of this season, but those are the four that I’m insta-watching as soon as the newest episodes are uploaded.

Watched Made In Abyss. Another really good first season. Show is strong.

This is one that actually got better for me as it went on. Like halfway through I wasn't so sure about it. Not that the show did anything wrong but things I initially saw as flaws aren't actually flaws. At first the art style of the show (beautiful and cute) contrasted with the tone of the show for me. Even the tone of the show itself sort of contrasted with itself to me at first as it sort of combines whimsy one moment with darker themes. I was like I don't think the creators understand what they are mixing. By the end I realized I was the one who was wrong. They knew exactly what they were doing and it was all on purpose.

Shows gets dark at certain points. Episode 10 btw which is the darkest, I accidentally watched first as I mentioned in a post above. I've been on a anime kick recently because I tend to not watch anime for long stretches (years) and then catch up on the stuff I missed. Lots of good ones in recent years.

Watched this. Enjoyed it overall. Crazy anime plot that's part serial killer thriller and part battle of the gods. I couldn't place what they were using as inspiration fro the setting. European minis, french bakeries that make Asian goods, slightly modern military and modern police forces with computers.

KLK is pretty unapologetic with its blatant fanservice. The entire show is built around it, sure, but it's not hiding what it is.

Yup, but the 'analysis' there actually fits KLK. Being true to yourself and feeling comfortable in your skin (by showing it) is actually a theme of the show. Should have expressed myself better, sorry.

I was 17 when watching this show the first and only time, and even then I had a hard time staying patient with Shinji and all the other angsty crap the show contained. But it's a classic I suppose and worth watching in so far as to see how it influenced the genre at large.

If they'd manage to finish that movie series someday, I'm gonna take a look at them.

I quite liked Evangelion back in the day but at this point, I can't even remember plot points. Just that it was a depressing show and I tend to like those if they are well executed. Maybe that will inspire a rewatch at some future point.

Started watching full metal alchemist which I never watched. For some reason I always had a negative impression of this show. No reason why. I just did so ignored it back when it was super popular.

Watched 5 episodes of Brotherhood and while its fine, I wasn't super invested for whatever reason. Watched the first five episodes of the original and that interested me more. I preferred the slower pacing and better explained world early on. Also the older art style made me nostalgic about that era of animation. I'll watch brotherhood also once I finish the older show which I'm about 15 episodes into.

It seems fine. It's not my favorite anime in the world but its certainly more than watchable.

Never finished the original FMA show. The at times sluggish pacing didn't really do it for but more importantly, the show got very depressing and angsty at times. I don't really dig that, which explains my mild dislike of NGE, because otherwise I quite liked the style of that show.

Brotherhood was more upbeat I thought, or at least didn't dwell too much on the tragic stuff, of which there was still a lot of. Reason for that is the accelerated pacing I guess. I didn't have trouble following things, though the fact that I watched the original show at least halfways helped in that I suppose.

Yeah I had no real issues with brotherhood. It's more personal bias. I tend to prefer slower and less action than the average person although execution has to be strong for that approach to work.
