Weird Netflix doesn't have them all.

Interspecies Reviewers is the Anime of the Decade, bless up

It's probably the horniest anime ever made [that isn't just straight-up hentai]. The plot is a couple of dudes [and a hermaphrodite angel] visit different monster-girl prostitutes, have loads of sex, and then write reviews to decide which species is the best. That's it. That's the show.

Finished watching Kandagawa Jet Girls last night in preparation for the game, which is out today (and am sure is 2020 GOTY).  It hit me that this entire show was pretty positive and all about friendship and good sportsmanship.  No bad guys or underhanded shit going on or any of that.  If they ever think about removing all the tiddy, they could probably reach a lot more of a mainstream audience.  But then I guess they'd lose all their fans.

That said, too much was focused on FURENDO and not enough on the actual racing.  It's like after the first couple of episodes, somebody said "fuck it; let's just make it a pervy slice of life show and have them go around town doin' thangs," then someone else went "oh yeah, this is about water combat racing, right?  We got one episode left let's have a race!"  The gyaru pair show up as finalists for this race, despite never having been shown as racers or even having an ounce of skill.

Unless I missed something, it also irked me that the main character's mama was some famous racer that her partner looked up to, but she never told her she was her daughter at any point.  Why? 

Definitely spent too much time writing this post about this.

This work basically won't be enjoyed for what it is but instead it is the context that decides whether one will hold either one of the opinions.

Few do not know this franchise and as with any big one, there are fanatics and nay-sayers.

One does not need to elaborate why one could possibly be a fanatic.

Nay-sayers are however split into two camps. One simply finds the genre itself not to their taste

or they are into this genre but have different points of complaints.

Now instead of something that is not and has no pornography getting such, it having such got an adaption which has neigh. Even if one is new or for some reason does not now Nekopara  Jetgirls will likely join either the fanatics because catgirls jetgirls that can be lewded or they won't like it for the very same reason,

As one might be able to guess, the camp that criticizes the original work won't grow much since the original work basically becomes additional material.

And that's basically my problem, the original is just too damn short to be good. Each is like 3 hours, 5 if you are slow. That's not enough to nurture love, build characters (+their relations) and make lasting memories. Mind you while anime would be slower than a visual novel, there is much more happening and at once even.

This is also quite likely why I like Minami-ke so very much since it had 4 cours plus OVAs. Though obviously Kana is a better Chocola anyway. (I want to like Nekopara Jetgirls but I just could not, I sincerely hope that I can enjoy the anime on its own which luckily is after Episode #2 still the case, Introductions are out of the way and now it should be time for full-on soothing cute comedy.)

Posted in the movie thread, but lolllllll at Shinkai's Weathering With You as someone that's been watching his stuff from the start and is a fan (although Place Promised in Our Early Days was baaad and I haven't seen Garden of Words but from what I understand it's generally not well reviewed and considered his 2nd weakest after Place Promised).

The process of watching Makoto Shinkai’s Weathering with You:
Hmmm, direction seems kinda off. His stuff is usually narratively very tight -> ok, this story is really weird, I don’t even know if Miyazaki in his prime could make this work -> hahaha, wat -> ooohhhh boyyy -> time to leave the theater quickly.
At first I thought this was maybe a writer/director under stress of trying to come up with something new & great after being made super famous and probably rich with Your Name.
But duckroll pointed out to me that Shinkai’s good movies are all essentially the same movie over and over with Your Name being kinda the perfection of what he does aka guy & girl separated by distance, space, time with poetic waxings and nice art.
And when he tries to write a story outside of that...he has issues.

Weathering with You is a pretty bad story concept and the directing feels messy like he didn’t have a lot of faith in it and was just sorta flailing around hoping it would come together

I read an interview afterwards where he is like well I wanted to make a movie about climate change because it’s a thing now, but I wanted to strip out all political messages to appeal to everyone and wanted to show both sides of the weather. Lol
So he wanted to make a movie about climate change without actually saying anything about climate change and by including climate change denial arguments he essentially made a family friendly climate change denial movie lol
What a mess
but hey it made $200 million already! So he gets to continue to be a success in Asia.
