I think that's largely true for everybody. Most of the objection to it falls into one of two categories. The first group is going to be resistant to the DRM that prevents resale. The next group are going to be people concerned about something going wrong. What if my internet goes down and the technician can't get out for several days? These kinds of questions are particularly relevant when the necessity of a connection to a server in a game is mostly, if not completely unnecessary.

Except they're both doing it, but in different ways. MS is using activation codes like with PC software, Sony is using proprietary code on the disc to tie it to the console.

Sony has already been testing this with PS3 games. The PS3 version of PS All Stars has the activation for the PS Vita version on the disc itself. Once it's activated on one PSN account, it can't be used on another.

ONE of the major problems with this is their fucking console stability/reliability. Can you imagine having to redl your licenses for both physical discs and xbla/psn everytime you have sent a console out for repair or upgraded to the new suppsedly more stable slimmer model? I've not had to send my fucking laptop out to be repaired but My 360 needed fixing at least twice in a much shorter timespan. So there's that and the fact that no fucking way will their deals be half as good as what Steam has to offer. God, too many words about stupid bullshit

and it'll be interesting to see how both handle day and date digital releases.  Vita is like Steam where it's 10% off for the digital copy; flaws are that it's not universal and if the msrp drops, the digital prices might not immediately reflect that.  Wii U's system is weird.  You get 10% back in Wii U store credit, so you're saving on your next purchase.  But it's only available if you bought the premium Wii U, and only for 3 years (I think).  Another thing Sony does is include deeper discounts if you're a Plus member (recently, 75% instead of 50%).  I can imagine both including and expanding these benefits as part of PS Plus and XBL Gold.

Pretty much everyone involved has their head either in the sand or up their asses... consumers are oblivious to what the future is gonna look like, and the suits are in denial about what they're going to be able to get away with.

I don't like an always online console, after having dealt with D3 shittery.  No thanks.  Plus, there's all sorts of BS router issues, etc.  I would trust MS to do this more than Sony since they have a lot of experience utilizing Live, but I still wouldn't like it.

Ultimately, the next (last) gen is going to be all about people coming to the realization that there's no fucking reason to own consoles if the future is going to be dd (which I can assure you, it is).  You idiots have fun owning the final nails in the console coffin, I'll be chilling over here enjoying real gaming for a shit ton cheaper and easier on mah pc.

oh, sure, I try not to get shouty.  I see how it's the same difference for you.  I get a lot of time to play and I jump around games a lot, so I like having all of that available.   There are a lot of gaps between new games I really want to play, so backlog helps.

My console gets zero playtime. I don't play everything I have on Steam, but I do play games I have on steam. $5 for a couple of hours of playtime is a far better use of money than $60 for something I don't touch.
