In the UK, Pokemon did ok. Not sure how Nintendo will reach their lavish targets with numbers like these though.

Not really surprised, there, multiplayer is the only real draw and it's definitely not nearly enough to get people excited. On the other hand, Fallout 4 was a massive hit [12 million copies went out to retailers on day 1], so a big drop off still means a lot of copies got sold.

From what I'm seeing, quite a few of the core Nintendo fanbase are still on the fence (but leaning to picking it up at some point) or don't like the 'Go' turn Nintendo has taken. It also explains the low user scores on Metacritic.
However a lot of new players who've only played Go on their phones or picked up the Switch casually are very interested in the game. And the overall vibe seems to be 'better than expected'.

Based on Twitch and Twitter coverage a lot of the gamer girl streamers are also hooked to dressing up and petting their Eevee's.

Nintendo is selling cute/adorable (Eevee) and nostalgia (Pikachu) and it seems to work.

Or you never stopped being a fan of the series, and now have to actively prevent yourself from eyerolling when Kanto and the anime's first season get referenced nonstop.

It was neat when they brought the OG theme back for X/Y. Most people thought The Pokemon Company wouldn't reference the 4kids seasons as heavily as that.

And then it was sorta neat last year when the OG theme was the ending to the movie.

But now they're just slapping it over some game footage and expecting me to care.

Playing this game, I kinda feel like Mika Stoklasa watching Star Trek 09.

Like, I can recognize things I like there, but it wasn't even made for me anyways.

I have a feeling the game will flame out faster than other Pokemon titles because it seems very light on content for a Pokemon game.
After all they removed the grind and replaced it with catching plus they made all Pokemon visible in the overworld.

People that picked it up on friday are already sharing scenes of late game content.

Pokemon Yellow sits at ~35 hours on 'How long to beat'.

I can't see Pokemon Let's Go Matching that.

Not really. His main stick is "everybody is doing fantastic", celebrating good sales in general. He's very positive on Sony and Xbox in the NPD threads on era all the time too. He seems to be some kind of social media figure head for the NPD.

Regarding the Pokemon post, it's just a better story to say "uh, we had a bad feeling about this one but now it exeeded our expectations" than "yeah, it did pretty well like all pokemon games".

We get the worst advice from our teachers and parents.
"You should work and study hard"
"You should be a doctor/manager/builder/computer programmer/dentist/lawyer/whatever"

It's never:
"Just become a corporate lobbyist my son. You'll be sipping champagne and snorting coke from the asses of hot interns"
or
"Do you know what a hedgefund manager is? How about I tell you about how you can own 3 houses and have the money of other people pay for them"
or
"Do you see those politicians? They have these people called advisors. They get paid the big bucks without doing much at all"
or
"Become an analyst in basically anything and get paid to predict things based on nothing really. You could drive a Porsche if you want"

Nintendo revealed on Wednesday that the Nintendo Switch is now the highest-selling console in the company's history during the Thanksgiving-Cyber Monday period (November 22-26), surpassing the sales of the Wii during that same time period in previous years. The time period was also the best-selling week for the Switch in the United States, and was the top-selling video game product online from Black Friday to Cyber Monday (November 23-26).

According to Nintendo, buyers purchased US$250 million in Nintendo products from November 22 to 26. Sales for Nintendo Switch hardware grew 115% compared to the same time period last year. First party Switch games (games developed, produced, or published by Nintendo) topped 1 million units (including digital downloads) from November 22-26, a 78% increase from last year over the same time period.

Combined sales of the Pokémon: Let's Go, Pikachu! and Pokémon: Let's Go, Eevee! Nintendo Switch games in the United States have hit more than 1.5 million units since the November 16 launch (the game recently recorded sales of 3 million units worldwide in its first week).

The Super Mario Party game's lifetime sales surpassed 1 million units in the U.S. as of Cyber Monday, and is now the fastest-selling game in the Mario Party series. The game is also the fifth million-selling first-party Nintendo Switch game in the United States.

Nintendo also reported that the Pokémon Ultra Sun and Pokémon Ultra Moon 3DS games have a combined lifetime sales of more than 2.2 million units in the U.S.

Nintendo also revealed that the lifetime sales of the Nintendo Switch in the United States have surpassed 8.2 million units, and Nintendo 3DS lifetime sales in the United States have surpassed 22 million units. The Super NES Classic Edition console has surpassed 2.5 million units in lifetime sales, while the NES Classic Edition surpassed lifetime sales of 2 million units.

UK numbers for Smash are in.
Quote
The game's launch sales are 302 per cent higher than the numbers achieved by Super Smash Bros for Wii U and they're 233 per cent higher than Super Smash Bros for 3DS. Launch sales are also 62.5 per cent higher than the Wii game Super Smash Bros Brawl. All of which means Ultimate is the fastest-selling Smash Bros game in the franchise's UK history.

It's worth noting that the sales only include physical numbers, so digital downloads of Ultimate have not been counted.

Holy shit.

Higher opening than New Super Mario Bros. Wii did back in the day.
It almost got to Melee LTD sales at launch.

This game is a monster.

next year Nintendo has another slate of big sellers lined up at a faster pace than this year (which was fuck all and Pokemon and Zelda at the end):
- Fire Emblem
- Animal Crossing
- Pokemon RPG

And other stuff sprinkled in between.
Pac-Man might close his mouth.  :doge

Also I wonder if Nintendo has fired the fucker who said:
"What say you? New Super Mario Bros. Switch? F-Zero Switch? Pilotwings Switch? Star Fox Switch? Pikmin Switch?"
"No my man me and my team are gonna waste my precious first party development time playing with these cardboard boxes instead!"

Total Australian and New Zealand sales over the first three days were almost 80% higher than that of Super Mario Odyssey. In addition, Smash Bros. Ultimate is the fastest selling eShop game ever. Nintendo Australia’s figures come from internal data and include eShop sales.

In Europe I've seen them at store counters 20% / 30% off.
It doesn't seem like it'll be kept in stock long after the holidays.

Although I must say that NES/SNES classics are also in stock everywhere.
It seems like demand for those has dried up.

The PS3, PSP, Vita, and Vita TV.

To be honest, the pax/n64 generation of games are the ones I have the least interest in going back to without, at the bare minimum, frame rate improvements.

So many of those are just so rough technically, and Frankly there just aren’t that many games that are that great from the time period.

I’m not sure I could pick more than a dozen from both systems combined that I really have any interest in playing again.

Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) announced on Monday that the PlayStation 4 game console has cumulatively sold more than 91.6 million units globally as of December 31, 2018, and sold more than 5.6 million units globally during the 2018 holiday season.

In addition, SIE noted that the Marvel's Spider-Man game has sold more than 9 million copies worldwide as of November 25, 2018. The game shipped last September. The total number of PS4 games sold cumulatively worldwide amount to 876 million copies, and more than 50.7 million game copies for the PS4 were sold during the 2018 holiday season.

Quote
Nintendo had an impressive 2018 — the analysts at the NPD Group report that the Nintendo Switch was the best-selling console of the year, and that for the the first time since 2009, the Japanese company earned more revenue from its games than any other publisher.

Nintendo reports that 8.7 million Switch units have been sold in the U.S. from its launch in March 2017 through November 2018. The NPD group reports that December sales for the Switch were the highest for any console since the Nintendo Wii in December 2009. Riding the sales of the Switch, overall console sales grew to their highest totals since 2009, too.
