« on: April 21, 2012, 04:26:01 AM »
the original was the first game i played on 360 and i kinda digged it,it was nice to play a sandbox game that basicaly wasn't just trying to ripoff GTA and it's "tough gangstaz" style,i think the sequel hits next week and i think i'll bite, anyone else here on the bore feel like doing the same?

gee, total flatline,i can understand when the thread is about "UGUU ADVENTURES 2,QUEST FOR KYUN KYUN" but this should be a decently sized western release :fbm

anyway,i tought you would play as the protagonist of the original game but instead you get to play as james HELLER,an iraq war veteran who lost his family to something that is pretty much close to a terrorist attack, can you think of a more american character?
:usacry :usacry :usacry :usacry :usacry :usacry :usacry  :usacry :usacry :usacry :usacry :usacry :usacry :usacry :usacry :usacry :usacry :usacry :usacry :usacry :usacry :usacry :usacry :usacry :usacry  :usacry :usacry :usacry :usacry :usacry :usacry :usacry :usacry :usacry :usacry :usacry :usacry :usacry :usacry :usacry :usacry :usacry :usacry  :usacry :usacry :usacry

during the super scripted and cinematic introductive event he gets infected by the main character of the first game and after that it's..... pretty much the first prototype, you run on wall, climb building and eat people,so yeah it's an incredibly cookie-cutter sequel, the game controls a little better, this time you already start with the glide ability and the ability to stealth kill, better yet all you need to do to stealth kill is grabbing someone when nobody is watching,no more pressing L1 and shit like that, there isn't even the chance of doing it by mistake because if you try to stealth kill someone who's under surveilance the game stops you

the only big difference so far,it's how power up are handled, you still gain experience but instead of buying new abilities, you just gain experience until you level up,then you can gain 1 minor upgrade, the major one are handled by finding all the collectibles in a zone or clearing optional missions, finding collectible sounds like a huge pain but at least the game is generous enough to point you when you are close to one, other power up are obtained simply by finding them around

the medal event of the first game also seems to be missing,if they are there, they get unlocked later, there seems to be some sort of multiplayer/online mode but to access it you need a code, can you spell "desperate attempt to stop second hand market?"

Way to deflect the issue, pirate. You know you are part of the reason there is a code required.

:bow being part of the problem :bow2

anyway it turns out you need some helicopter to go between different zone of the city... i tought seamless world was like the first required aspect of sandbox games? :lol
the dialogue is so juvenile

"YOU HAVE TO UNFUCK THINGS UP"*
"DON'T YOU HAVE SOME CHEMICAL TO MIX? NERD!"**

*actual line of dialogue
**this one too

I’m currently playing through the first one, having been on a four year hiatus from it. I’m kind of having fun, but not as much as I’d expected. In some ways, I’m just powering through it, hoping it will end before I become too frustrated.

As of this moment, and clearing an annoying mission this morning, if you asked if I’d buy this upcoming sequel, I’d have said “No,” or at least “Not at full price.”

playing this i can't help but feeling bored and i couldn't really realize myself why is that,i mean it's the same game and i loved the original... and then it hit me,they removed all the chaos from the game... getting assaulted by tanks, stealing one of them, blowing bases and such, all of that it's gone replaced by a bunch of missions that all play the same, eat this guy, destroy the tank, kill the same monster for the Xth time... the fact that it feels so similiar to the original (actualy now that i think about it,i fought exactly one enemy that wasn't in the original) doesn't do it any favor either,it's like playing a nintendo game :smug

so yeah it feels like prototype but it's like they removed all the fun out of it,the challenge event are gone too,i wouldn't have think i'd missed them but they made a nice diversion from the main storyline and getting a gold was hard and satysfing, now as i said you get optional missions which give you additional power but these plays all the same too and ask you to once again "kill X enemies" or "eat X people" and they take no effort at all, there are no bases or hives to destroy and when you remove that all you have from roaming around the city are a bunch of stupid collectibles

the power you get are mostly the same from the original, actualy there is exactly one new power (i guess having one new thing of everything is the recurring theme of the game) it's nice to play with it,but i don't think it's a huge addition
i also liked the "conspiracy" theme the original one had going for it,it gave some characterization to the game... there was a mystery,a stupid mystery but the game had something but in this one everything has been replaced by a black man that says "fuck" a lot,if i had to take a shot everytime the character swear at random i'd be in an alcohol coma, and then my ghost would be drunk... stuff like this is why i have to be a dirty weeaboo and i can't stand western games,it's like every western game has to try being a michael bay movie or something

i guess if you really liked the original, you might want to bite but otherwise there's no reason to do so,if you haven't played the original,go play that instead,it might control worse but it's more fun

Quote
Having played enough of both, I'm tempted to agree. Hit-and-Run was so thematically consistent and well constructed.

I'm stunned that I'm not having more fun in [PROTOTYPE], but somewhere between the overly complex control scheme, difficult to utilize combat abilities and powers, and the [UTTER RUBBISH] they are passing off as a storyline, it feels as though I'm struggling through completion because I know I will never pick it up again if I set it aside for even a moment.

It's strange, because it's still a much better version of Sega's HULK game. There are so many things done much better than HULK, and yet the dissonance between Alex's "must find a cure" motive and his "destroy anything which moves" tactics. I don't know that Mother Theresa gameplay to deal with the hordes of Infected people running rampant in Manhattan would be compelling, but at least it would make sense.

you'd be happy to know they totaly play alex as the villain in the sequel :lol

EDIT: http://uk.xbox360.ign.com/articles/122/1223534p1.html
you know a (western sandbox) game is a turd when ign gives it a 7.0 >:(

Sadly, it sounds like "more of the same," and the current level of gameplay I'm having in the original isn't that compelling. I'm sad that I'm not feeling this OWG on its own, but I suspect the currently on standby copies of Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood, Godfather II, Toy Story 3, and even upcoming Batman: Arkham City DLC will salve my wounds.

8/10
When did Edge really tip over the precipice of parody and into the abyss of bad.

Probably when they gave a girl 'The Witcher 2' to review. Tony Mott was eating a Ginsters' Mexican Chilli Chicken Wrap at the time of the meeting, but his taste glands were blown away by the pure awesome of the Ginsters slice.

Tl;dr:Tony Mott.

finished this
there is no "meeeeeeeeeehhhhhhhhhhh" big enough to descrive how "meeeeeeeeeehhhhhhh" is this game
poster child of lame western game,it's not even "so bad it's good" it's just plain average
at least the achievements are easy and fun to get

Finally finished the first one last night.

It was hard to believe how apathetic I was about the game by the time I finished it. Started over again in Game+ to grab a couple easy Achievements, popped them, and am  really truly waffling on finishing the story missions only just to grab "Finished the game without dying" and "Finished the game consuming fewer than 10 civilians." Together, they're 100 gamerscore, but I am just getting anxious to get on with the other games I brought with me.

I don't think I'll be getting this sequel anytime soon.

the achievements for the sequel are all pretty standard, stuff like "kill 30 enemy with a stealth kill" or "destroy 5 tanks using this attack"
the only 2 really annoying one are finishing the game on hard and getting all the power ups,the second is especialy annoying because the only way to get enough experience to do that is playing trough the game twice
at least it's a pretty short game

Picked this up along with the first game for $8. So far, I'm liking it. The first game really didn't do anything for me back when I played it a bit, but I decided to jump on the sequel since it was so cheap. Was worth it, I guess.

What are you finding different about it, from the first game?

I played quite a bit of the original, and felt it compared favorably the Sega's HULK game. Actually, the HULK game was based largely on Radical's previous effort, Hulk: Ultimate Destruction before they went on to make the original Prototype. It was clear to me that Radical had spent more time tuning their controls and camera than did developer, Edge of Reality.

Even so, I could not be bothered to shove my way through completing the Web of Intrigue, or a Hard playthrough, or Platinum/Gold medaling all the activities. Usually I try to wring out every last bit from an open world game, but I didn't want to with Prototype (or Hulk for that matter).

I didn't play the original very much, maybe an hour or so. Just didn't click with me, maybe my expectations are just different now or something.
