After all the Ninthing moaning about how dev costs are going up, do 3rd party games devs really want to be getting into the Plastic NFC figurine thing?I'm pretty sure the NFC thing doesn't have anything to do with Pokemon. Anything Nintendo does with a new home console likely has nothing to do with Pokemon. What likely happened is they saw Skylander's Wii success and did the same thing they did when they saw the uDraw tablet's success: copied it and made it standard on the console for all devs to use without clutting retail shelves with their own peripherals.
