This dude gets credited for a lot of things he didn't make. He's not the director of this game apparently, lol.

I don't know why anyone would buy this day 1, Grasshopper games always end up in bomba bins.

yeah Flower Sun and Rain is pretty out there. I enjoyed it, but there are some pretty sadistic elements to the gameplay.

I would like to play Lollipop Chainsaw asap, but I already have a list of games I'm going to buy beforehand once I find some scratch. Being unemployed sucks, the only games I've bought this year are XBLA games

If this game has the same level of nuttiness as Shadows Of The Damned did, I'm all over it.

Pre-ordered it from Amazon when it was $45. Should be here tomorrow.

Same.  Read that the game is very short (like 4-5 hours, tops), but has good replay value.  I just want a decent beat-em-up; if the game sucks, oh well- Max Anarchy next month.  Some who got it early said that the controls are not as smooth as they should be.

I see your point but at the end of the day this is a videogame, and a Suda51 videogame at that.  So if it ends up being good (very unlikely based on his recent games), I'd still play it at some point and just put up with the presentation.

That costume montage crap is just the GAF OT.

The game has several types of time attack/high score modes.  One GAFfer gave it a 9/10 and said it was a better NMH1.  I'm skeptical- way too much T n' A being used to pimp this.

I'm all for questioning the perpetuation of misogynist/racist/etc. types of stupid stereotypes in any medium. This game seems to at least slightly be taking the piss on the direction the industry has gone in in glorious nippon but it definitely is ultimately celebrating said direction regardless of having an ironic wink to the proceedings. http://www.destructoid.com/review-lollipop-chainsaw-229321.phtml

Quote
As a piece of entertainment, Lollipop Chainsaw is something truly memorable -- shameless, camp, idiotic, and so very enchanting. As a game, it is a celebration of the arcade era, an era when games felt free to be outrageous without worrying about being taken seriously or making even the vaguest lick of sense. As something to review, it is not deserving of the dread I wrote about at the beginning of the article. As it turns out, trying to describe Lollipop Chainsaw is half the fun. Talking about it is a joy. Playing it, even more so. It's one of the straight-up dumbest games you will ever encounter, but at the end of the day, it proves one thing ...

Just because something is dumb, that doesn't mean it can't be brilliant.

Sounds like it's short, but based on multiple playthroughs for getting high scores. Interesting to see a comparison to Crazy Taxi, too.

That's a Jim Sterling review- don't trust it.  Someone said that he was trashing the game on Facebook after he posted the review to Destructoid.

Reviews appear to be mixed, so it's definitely a love it or hate it type of game.  Also seeing that this has more Suda 51 weirdness/wackiness than any other game.

well allright i played the first two stages, games works like this. You have weak attacks assigned to the X button that you execute with your pom-pom and heavy attack assigned to the Y button that you execute with your chainsaw, weak attack can't kill zombie's but instead it just stun them,if you want to rack up kills you have to use the chainsaw,B let you dodge and jump around,if you press B near a zombie you do a bunny hop over the zombie and then you can instakill by pressing Y, A is reserved is for low attack for zombie that crawls on the ground

the actual game feels a little clunky, stunned zombie dies in a single chainsaw hit but stunning a zombie takes forever so you most rely on heavy attack, the problem is that heavy attack are slow and unwieldy and have big delays between each strikes and even then it still take 3-4 strikes before you actualy kill anything,so it feels somewhat clunky,it's better than no more heroes but hardly on the level of bayonetta or devil may cry... crowd control is probably the most important aspect of the game, your swings with the chainsaw are huge and usualy hit multiple enemies and if you kill multiple zombie's in a single strike, you get a special (GLITTERY ^_^) bonus, there are also some sequence where you do QTE

as you play, you gain coins which you can spend on more combo's and special attack or otherwise health upgrade,so far i've spent all my money on health upgrades so it's hard for me to say if thing improves when you get some combo undergoing

the main attraction is probably the whole theme of the game which basicaly can be seen as a parody of the american mtv generation, jokes include

- one survivor declaring that "he's totaly going to put this on youtube"
- the main character declaring that the villain knew it was her birthday because of facebook
- at least one carrot top joke
- the main character acting as the dumbest most stereotypical blonde ever (phrases include "OMG THAT'S SO LAME")
- one survivor declaring that "he's going to masturbate to her later" (therefore relating to a good chunk of bore)

it's actualy quite fun to follow,i also like how the menu and loading screen are doing in a comic book style (i have to wonder why it takes a japanese game to have a game with nods to american comics) did i mention that the icon for easy mode is a chicken? :lol

the plot is quite weird too,a goth kid summons 4 evil zombie into the city and it's up to the main character to slay them all,she gets aided by what basicaly amount to a caricature of master miyaghi who's also a master of sushi and zombology, the first zombie you fight is a punk rocker that attack's you by screaming COCKSUCKER and other giant meanie word at you

- one thing i forgot to add, some of the zombie's you fight are a little stronger and feature names, when you defeat them you get them on a special list and they come with special description such as "likes to go to furry conventions" or "pleasure herself with a vibrator"

this game will spawn many many many distinguished mentally-challenged internet article :-\

Hasn't "cocksucker" been said in other games?  No other console game I can think of says "JIZZ!" though.   :lol

Just finished the prologue and the first level.  Took me about an hour and a half and I died a few times, mainly on the two sections I detailed below.

Fun game- Whoever said that the game plays like a "deeper" No More Heroes was right on the money- it starts off a bit clunky, but then you get used to the controls and start unlocking more moves, and things really take off.

At its core, Lollipop Chainsaw is a straight-forward beat-em-up with some QTE sequences here and there.  There's also points where you have to stop and clear out or defend an area before proceeding.  On the first stage you have to stop exploding zombies from reaching a giant birthday cake filled with explosives and get 100 points in basketball by cutting off zombie heads and sending them flying into the basket in less than three minutes-- and you've got a full-on zombie team, complete with dudes jumping to block your shots and cartwheeling cheerleaders in the way!

The soundtrack is ace and there's lots of stupid dialogue that you'll find funny based on your own maturity level.  I think part of it is the soundtrack, but for some weird reason I get a bit of a Crazy Taxi and Jet Set Radio vibe from this title.  Not sure why that is since LC is nothing like those games.

one thing i forgot to add, killing zombie gives you star power which let you trigger a star mode, when you enter star mode you get a good effect and a bad effect

- good effect: you kill any zombie in 1 hit

- bad effect: this starts playing

this plays on the shop menu,i always end up idling a few seconds on the shop menu because it's so catchy

What you mean is that killing multiple zombies at the same time gives you "star power," which is usually done the easiest way by dizzying multiple zombies at once, then lopping their heads off.

you sure? i'm pretty sure any kill give you star power

anyway i've reached stage 5 (out of 6 :lol) and yeah... the actual combat system is kind of dull, always punching the same enemies with always the same moves,i think the developer realized this because they keep throwing stuff at you that has nothing to do with actual zombie killing, for example in stage 2 you get a dashing move,so a good chunk of stage 2 consist of dashing trough a track,in stage 3 you get a gun so stage 3 is full of stuff to shoot at and so on,sometimes they even straight throw at you a minigame without trying to mask it,the boss are always amusing altough they get easier and dumber as you progress

spoiler (click to show/hide)
the second boss is a zombie viking you fight in his viking ships,he tries to attack you with thunders... i had no idea that viking metal was an actual music genre
the third boss is a hippie zombie chick that floats around and splits herself into multiple copies that you have to shoot down with your gun
the fourth boss is an auto-tuned zombie pimp thus bringing the number of auto-tuned pimp into videogames to two,he floats around in a saucer and throws bomb at you, since the level is set in an arcade the bomb are all pixelated and such :lol
[close]

personaly? i think the bebs and himuro that are waiting for this to bomb are doing the right thing,it really feels like the kind of game you rent, finish it on a boring evening and be done with it

Yup, viking metal is a subgenre... as well as genres like "New Wave of British Heavy Metal", "Funeral Doom", "Swedish Death Metal", and "Groove Metal". Metal is the only type of music that splits hairs so much it makes us EDM fans go "wtf?".

Yeah, I'm sure...I take it you haven't killed three or more zombies at the same time yet?  You'd know exactly what  I was talking about.   :P  The game refers to it as "sparkle hunting."

Here's an easy way to get the achievement:

Quote
anyway i've reached stage 5 (out of 6 :lol) and yeah... the actual combat system is kind of dull, always punching the same enemies with always the same moves,

The game is very much a beat-em-up that is more about using technique/being stylish so that you can earn more coins/medals (or get better scores or time in the ranked mode) to level up Juliet.  If you're just doing the same one or two moves over and over, you must be getting complete shit scores and are missing the whole point of the game.

Are you playing this on easy and just smashing buttons?  Guess the ranked stuff is lost on you anyway, with your modded system.

i think the developer realized this because they keep throwing stuff at you that has nothing to do with actual zombie killing, for example in stage 2 you get a dashing move,so a good chunk of stage 2 consist of dashing trough a track,in stage 3 you get a gun so stage 3 is full of stuff to shoot at and so on,sometimes they even straight throw at you a minigame without trying to mask it,the boss are always amusing altough they get easier and dumber as you progress

They introduce new abilities and then give you game play segments built around it...those chainsaw running-charge areas are an easy way to get a shitload of coins and multi-kills if you steer yourself right.  The gun you get works great as soon as you turn off the auto-targeting option in the options menu, and stage three is good mix of fighting/shooting/psychedlic-trippy shit.

I LOVE the arcade mini-games on the fourth level.  Lost it when they started playing "Pac-Man Fever" on one part of that stage!   :lol

personaly? i think the bebs and himuro that are waiting for this to bomb are doing the right thing,it really feels like the kind of game you rent, finish it on a boring evening and be done with it

The game is meant to be replayed and is great for people who like beat-em-ups (particularly musou games)-- you won't get all the abilities and level up on one play though.  You just do story mode once to get the levels unlocked for ranked mode.

Don't like beat-em-ups?  You're gonna be bored.  This is easily Grasshopper's best game, from a game play perspective.  YMMV on the cheesiness and cheesecake.

Forgot where I read this, but no doubt that Saint's Row 2/3 had have been an influence on the developers...especially after playing the arcade level.

you sure? i'm pretty sure any kill give you star power

Yeah, I'm sure...I take it you haven't killed three or more zombies at the same time yet?  You'd know exactly what  I was talking about.   :P  The game refers to it as "sparkle hunting."

yeah i have done that but don't you just get extra medals and score for your effort? i'm still 100% sure that when you kill any zombie they still drop normal stars that give you star power

to clarify i'm refering to star power as those stars that let you go into super mode after a while

anyway i've reached stage 5 (out of 6 :lol) and yeah... the actual combat system is kind of dull, always punching the same enemies with always the same moves,

The game is very much a beat-em-up that is more about using technique/being stylish so that you can earn more coins/medals (or get better scores or time in the ranked mode) to level up Juliet.  If you're just doing the same one or two moves over and over, you must be getting complete shit scores and are missing the whole point of the game.

nah,i'm playing on normal, the problem is even if i wanted to mix it up how am i supposed to do so? everything in the shop is so friggin expensive

besides i tought scoring was pretty much dictated by how much sparkle hunting you can triggers? seems pretty pointless to me to go for scoring until you have gotten some of the more powerfull/wide ranged move's

personaly i'd be happier if the stage were smallers and there was more of them,30 minutes stage are annoying to replay tough i guess that you can get quicker time when you start skipping cutscene's and killing enemies more quickly
