We are talking about "real" fans of the games.  They shouldnt be giving a shit about what platform they are on.   I know i wouldnt.   The fans that wont swap over are system warriors, but who cares about them.   I think that is what Andrex and I are getting at.

i completely agree that MH4 is going to be sales crazy time here in Japan - absolutely no doubt about it. 15,000 basic 3DS + MH4?! Mentioned it elsewhere but that's the Sony/Vita deadline to either come up with something amazing , ship a truckload of cash to Capcom for -something- or... i dunno... hope that whatever Ryozo is working on is also for the Vita? (i'm sure they'd already know)

Making a call on who the "real" fans of the game is difficult - as per Oscar there's people everyone here would think are "casual" Monster Hunter players then you talk to them and they drop in they're in the 2-3 THOUSAND hour bracket of play time on -one- version. I personally see myself as a "real fan" of monster hunter but i don't see how you can discount X million people you've never met.

I absolutely 100% agree that people who want to play Monster Hunter who played on the PSP will be buying a 3DS in the absence of any PSP/PSV announcement (I doubt anyone would die of shock if MH3rdP G gets announced for PSP at TGS) and i probably agree that most players don't care about the hardware as long as the game continues to have the familiar look. Even the twin stick thing is a red herring - people survived using the claw and, in fact, on the Vita with twin sticks as an option i still use "the claw"

Anyways, from my own short sighted ME ME ME view, here's my stance : I'm fucking sick of playing a game that looks little different from the first game in 2004. I moaned and moaned and moaned when MH3rdP was announced for PSP and vowed never to play it as i sulked - i played it and loved it. I'm sure the same will happen here again with MH4 but the game is abso-fucking-lutely perfect fodder for an upgrade. I'm trying to avoid the "should have been on Vita" but - fuck it - in a selfish world where i don't give a fuck about who else it sells to and given it's not a handheld platform series -IF- you own a Vita and a 3DS there is absolutely no earthly reason you would be cheering for it to be on the weaker of the two machines -if you own both- or -if you own neither- (dirt person reasons aside). But of course that's by the by - Capcom have a business to run, not a charity, and putting sales at risk wouldn't be a great idea (though the decision was apparently taken when MH3rdp was finished). That still doesn't change the core of my argument but hey. It really was great work by Nintendo to get this series - huge infact - and i'm sure someone at Sony is spanking incompetent arses with big leather shovel hands.

I dunno - perhaps it's easy for people like Andrex and crew who got interested at Tri to see why there's a -long running- issue with the game not really going anywhere visually. If MHTri is your only MH game to date then everything probably looks as fresh as it ever was... after MH, MHG, MH2, MH1P, MH2P, MH2PG, MHTri, MH3P, MHF, MH3G ? completely different outlook. The game is nice pretty environment with huge monsters - it's an ideal candidate for an upgrade. I'm personally thinking Next Gen Consoles rather than Vita, but i know that's about as likely as a bj from the pope. Let me dream , arseholes.

EDIT: Reread this - and other than me obviously looking like a complete whinge, i did make myself laugh at how i'm asking Nthings to try to understand the frustration of having a series of games look the same for 8 years - when they've obviously being living with that for -all- series for nearly 10 years (and, seemingly, loving it!)  :-*

As a ninthing i dont really care about graphics as long as he gamplay is changed.  The reason why you are complaining and Ninthings not is the fact that most games stay very similar to the original on the gaming front.  Then again i hate how they put mario on everything and how pokemon feels the same yet worse every revision.

i'm assuming here that control via the wiimote is counted as a gameplay change, right?

so ... did you just go DS/3DS? If i was a dyed in the wool ONE COMPANY ONLY gamer then the last gen would have driven me nuts. Actually, most gens would have.

But if i was an nthing and Wii only last gen? I would have been playing Wii Hang Ourselves.

Nah i have everything except a 360(my first one died).  I have a psp ds and 2 3ds because of region locking.  I am probably not getting a vita unless a game i want ocmes out for me.

How much does that have to do with your preference for the claw controls versus the fact those games weren't developed with the intention of a camera that rotates 360 degrees? I've tried to play MHFU with the second analog stick for camera controls and it's quite jarring simply because the camera wasn't made for those inputs. You have weird jumps that the camera makes to accommodate the lack of a second stick, and I don't like it. If there's ever a proper Monster Hunter for Vita I'd expect a real camera may change your mind.

it's a usage case thing - i've been using the claw on PSP for a while, hell the original MH on PS2 i was using the second analog stick for weapon attacks (as it was back then on default)

MH3rdP mapping the vita right stick to camera - i did it , but it just felt wrong because of what i was used to. It did it's job well enough though. Thing is i want to be always able to do 3+ things at a time - i want to be able to move the camera (left claw finger), move (left thumb), attack (right thumb), and be able to get quickly in and out of item creation menu (obviously only one at a time on right). I'm sure i could get used to an alternate control, but right now the Claw just feels like "home"

okay, the initial details that are apparently in Famitsu have me a little more excited.

the UTTER SHIT that is underwater combat is GONE! HUUUUUUUUURRAH!

and the monsters will use the multi leveled environment/env itself as part of the proceedings - so i can take a giant graphical downgrade if this really is going to evolve the game drastically in terms of AI and fight dynamics. At least then it can be a blueprint for building on.

More NPCs .... that's really not good for a handheld. I wanted to smash the 3DS playing MH3G, so if this is even wordier i might really hurt something.

seriously - this is why MH3rdP had it down pat - it was just minimal chatting and just straight into hunting.

No one gives a shit about story - it's an unwanted wall to kicking Evil Jho's fat f*cking green face from one end of a map to the other then <start button> kicking him in the face whilst he's in a trap.

bu bu bu tsunami angry fish god!!! WHOOOO FUUUUUCKING CAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARES?!

note: this is the beauty of the game - becoming skilled at taking down beasts. First time you -ever- see Evil Jho? a) oh shit b) then he wrecks you : Oh SHIIIIT

X many tries later when you are kicking ten bells of shit out of him as he limps off trying to avoid the inevitable death? WHO IS THE FUCKING DADDY NOW?!?

Well hey think of it this way - the game will look like an impressive improvement actually running versus those extra grainy artifacted images! But yeah those look like ass even by jpg standards. Are they direct scans from a magazine page?

the game looks like shit - just get used to it and we can start hoping/focusing on the vast AI/environmental overhawl this game is getting....

alternatively - we can start playing the funeral march on a once great series that Capcom just refused to ever update for the cutting edge and we can start fingerscrossing for the Gree card game ultimate version :/

mpl on GAF actually did say Youtube was making the game look worse than it'll be  :lol Visually the game is gross. It'll look better on the 3DS because the screen is smaller but that doesn't change the fact the graphics are still gross.

The more I hear about the game, from the village details to the wider areas and emphasis on verticality the more I forgive the glaring graphical shortcomings. In a perfect and fair world I'd obviously like both, but if I had to choose between textures and IQ OR the improvements they plan on introducing, I'd definitely sacrifice the former in favor of the latter. I know I'm gonna sound like the typical GAF nintard right now, but the game is sounding hotter by the day to the point I stopped giving a crap about how it looks.

But sweetheart there's no doubt about it, it *looks* like a hot mess. Spare me the compression, youtube, and screen size excuses because you KNOW it looks bad right now. We're still months away from the release, here's hoping they let it cook for a while.
