I hate how they use the word theorize. Like, I'm not even a science major and even I know that terminology is scientifically incorrect when used in a science setting.

nah, I don't think anybody knows how to use it correctly in a scientific setting.

Finished S1.

Fuck it. I'm skipping to season 3.

Season 3 so far:

- direction is better
- editing better
- effects better
- better acting
- better story
- better make up

Like, the first five minutes of Evolution, Enterprise is being rocked and it really feels like a ship being rocked and not a crappy set. This is the TNG I remember.

I just don't get how they could have such a huge quality jump.

The most likely factors in play there were the popularity [which probably led to bigger episode budgets], less network interference, the actors being more familiar with their characters, Gene Roddenberry ceding some control over the series to the younger members of the crew, the arrival of Michael Piller and Ronald D. Moore, and Riker's beard.

There was never any network interference. The show was syndicated.

I did a similar review of ST:TNG a ways back, re-watching s3, thinking "Wow, this is so great! I bet s2 is better than I remember as well!" I realized during s2 that, yes, it's better than s1, but the climb to s2's quality was definitely a gradual one.

I don't think I'm missing anything from S2 either, aside from the ep where Q introduced humanity to the Borg. Hypothetically, if someone is new to the series, I suggest they watch s1's best: Heart of Glory, Datalore, Arsenal of Freedom,  Where No One Has Gone Before, 11001001, all Q episodes,  along with the pilot to get a taste of who the characters are, their backgrounds. Then watch Q Who? and then jump into S3.

Of course, I plan on watching all of S2 when it drops on blu ray.

Also, TNG quality is not up to Riker's beard because he has a beard in s2, but their uniforms. S3 uniforms have collars, aren't skin tight, and Troi wears a new uniform every episode to tease your dick with.

Q is awesome, they should make a show where he just goes around dicking with random starship captains.

Troi is pretty bad.

Character looks nervous.

"I sense that he is nervous and unnerved."

No shit, Toi. Shut the fuck up.

I think Troi should have died instead of Yar. Yar at least had an interesting background and extreme psychosis ("RAPE GANGS!!!!") and had potential to grow as a character. Troi is one note, in every episode.

Gene Roddenberry ceding some control over the series to the younger members of the crew
Gene got kicked off the show basically after the first season, the bulk of the writers bailed because Gene had these rules like "NO CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT, THEY ARE PERFECT IN FARPOINT", "ALL RACES IN FEDERATION ARE PERFECT, LECTURE THE REST INTO UTOPIA" and shit and just like with TMP Paramount said "this could be great and make some mad dollar bills, let's get someone who doesn't want Space Jews to be the main enemy."

Gene DESPISED Star Trek VI (my fav) because he felt it was impossible for there to be prejudice in the 23rd century.
I did a similar review of ST:TNG a ways back, re-watching s3, thinking "Wow, this is so great! I bet s2 is better than I remember as well!" I realized during s2 that, yes, it's better than s1, but the climb to s2's quality was definitely a gradual one.
The writers strike derailed season two. So they had to go back and try to create episodes out of scripts they already had including from Phase II and then toss in that clip show to even get to the reduced number of episodes. I forget who it is with, but in an interview one of the people on the show they were basically saying that had that strike gone on longer the show would have ended after two seasons because they were still coasting on the IT'S STAR TREK ON TV AGAIN! fumes.
I don't think I'm missing anything from S2 either
The Measure of a Man. Peak Performance.

The Emissary is vital to Worf's storyline.

I love The Royale because of how stupid AMAZING it is.

Contagion and Time Squared are fun too. I like Where Silence Has Lease but I don't know many people who do.

Have some remaster shots from http://www.ex-astris-scientia.org/observations.htm

The remastered Blu-Ray looks amazing. Just little things like actually being able to see the lights in the windows of the ships, where before it was just all blurred over.

To boldly go...

:rock One of the best seaons. :bow2

Also bought...

mainly for convenience, and because I read some reviews saying how awesome the stitched together episodes are. Basically, it's just the two episodes with the end of Ep. 1 and the beginning of Ep. 2 cut off so you can watch it together in one go, instead of having to swap discs and watch the intro again when Season 4 comes out (in July). It does have a 30 minute doc on the Borg and a commentary as well, so that's nice.

Also LOL @ Paramount dumping Enterprise S1 out on Blu-Ray this week as well. Enterprise was shot in HD so putting it on Blu-Ray is no big deal compared to TOS or TNG, but they waited until Star Trek 2 was coming out in theaters to release it, probably because they thought that in this period of Trek hype is the only time anyone would buy the damn thing. But then the go ahead and release it the same week as TNG S3, sooo..... :lol

Mom’s got a DVR, so I’ve been watching old eps, out of sequence. I still love this show.
