I'm not taking it back... the unit works fine and the shell is fine unless I deliberately open it like shown.

A friend of mine told me the same thing...seems to be normal.  I wonder if anyone really will end up releasing replacement shells for the XL...

yet strangley enough he sticks to consoles (mainly the PS3)  :lol

he tends not to notice them on ps3.  59 fps on an xbox game and he'll screech bloody murder, variable 20-30 fps on ps3 and he'll say oh it's okay cuz motion blur or some shit.

it is funny how he blasted Gamecube and Xbox for poor visuals and yet he praised ps2 all the fucking time. Could dark10x be the biggest hypocrite of all time?

This is coming from a guy who will buy any lump of shit as long as it was pinched from a Swedish developer's ass.

StreetPass is so shit!

I got like 50 passes at the DIstant Worlds show. I was pretty excited to get more puzzle pieces and play Find Mii.

Then I find out it only uses the "latest" Mii you passed. What bullshit is that!

It would be cool if the puzzles you unlocked in Street Pass could be used as stationary in Swapnote. It would give them a reason for existing beyond just looking at 3D renders of things.

Man that's such garbage. So if I get 7 passes, the next time I play it will use those 7 passes? So every time I kept saying "yea ignore this lets go to plaza" it would erase the last batch? I dont even recall anywhere explaining this.

Whatever, it killed any interest I had in this feature. Maybe version 2.0 will fix this... right up there with friend codes

It stores up to 10 and then you have to check them and play with them or you don't get any more StreetPasses.  Once you've checked them, you have to play with them before you check the gate again, or else you can't play with them.

I mean, as the irritating text boxes that jump up EVERY FUCKING TIME (NINTENDARGH) say.

I cashed out a bunch of my reward points for Best Buy giftcards.  I have enough to get a 3DS XL and a game for free.  Since I'm a huge taco for Mario, I figure 3D Land is in order.

A portable handheld might be fun since my dog gets jealous of my laptop computer.

As for Pokemon, I would say the non-third entries (Emerald, Platinum) are clearly not low-budget. Mid-budget at least.

A lot of the design work is in place from one game to the next yeah, and Game Freak is a relatively small dev house, but they typically spends years working on each new game (they have at least two teams working on two different games at any given time, allowing them to release every ~1.5 years nowadays.) They replace at least 2/3 of the sprite in every game, up to 100% in the new-generation games (even B/W which were on the same hardware! and they animated them as well.) The music is among the best on whatever platform the Pokemon game in question is on, and the attention to detail (both for noobs and hardcore players) is staggering. The inclusion of the Battle Tower/Frontier/Subway STILL blows my mind and combined with stuff like the egg tricks (Flame Body halves hatch times), vitamins, etc. clearly shows they cater to the hardcore EV grinder as much as the 7-year old kid with an all Pikachu team. The amount of work into appeasing both (especially the hardcores) and balancing just right isn't the mark of a low-budget game at all.

Comparing that to a game that uses art reinterpretations of characters that wouldn't be fit for DeviantArt and includes stuff like tapping out beats to pre-rendered PS1 FMVs is an affront to my sensibilities, personally.

"But it's fun!" Well, sure, but I wasn't arguing that. In fact I wasn't even comparing it with Pokemon, so I don't know how things veered off into that straw man. Comparing Theatrhythm to both of the 3DS's other notable rhythm games (Rhythm Thief R and now HarmoKnight), Square's entry definitively comes off as cheaper. Making matters worse is that Game Freak's is an eShop game and will probably be priced around 25% of Square's game.

That was the point I was making.

But that's all besides the point here.  You're trying to imply that Theatrhythm isn't a worthwhile product, or is a bad value or something.  You're wrong.

I was joking in order to prop up HarmoKnight. Of course if you're into it Theatrhythm is "worthwhile." My main point was Square is charging full price for it.

But that's all besides the point here.  You're trying to imply that Theatrhythm isn't a worthwhile product, or is a bad value or something.  You're wrong.  I was skeptical of Theatrhythm, too, before I played it.  But the core gameplay is fresh (which isn't easy for a rhythm game, even Harmo-Knight cribs *heavily* from Space Channel 5), the RPG elements are implemented in an interesting way that gives you meaningful progress as you play, there are a ton of collectibles and challenges to complete, lots of awesome stuff to unlock, and a massive list of songs available even if you don't dip into the DLC.  Maybe you don't play rhythm games, but I do, and this one is probably one of the better values of any I've played.  What could have by all rights been a quick and dirty overpriced cash-in is actually surprisingly well-thought out and full of stuff.

Is that really how SC5 played? I never tried it. HarmoKnight looks more like a direct rip-off of Bit.Trip Runner, which I loved. GameFreak's has got cuter graphics and a spiffy art style though.

*looks at gameplay videos of Space Channel 5*
EDIT: I see what you mean, now. I still think HarmoKnight is closer to Runner.

I tried the Theatrhythm demo and thought it was really solid, but count me with those who're smack dab in the middle of fandom spectrum, and completely indifferent about the music (It's pretty good, just not engraved in my psyche good).

That's why I'm reluctant to buy it now, because I feel like I'm only going to enjoy the nice presentation and TAP TAP gameplay, with much of the fan service and references flying over my head.

Bought from the eShop:

- Super Mario Land
- :bow Super Mario Land 2: Six Golden Coins :bow2 (aka best handheld Mario of all time)
- New Super Mario Bros. 2

For that last one, I can't help but notice how cheap it is after only a couple levels, but damn if I ain't a sucker for this stuff. Mario platforming hits just the right pleasure nerves, if you know what I'm saying.

Also this UI is garbage. Nintendo needs some serious UX designers.

lol Super Mario Land 2 is literally the worst Nintendo-made Mario platformer.  It's not awful, but man is it boring.  Also features lousy collision and wonky-ass jump physics.  Oh, and the massive size of Mario gives you a viewing area the size of a postage stamp.  It's the only game I feel no remorse about putting below NSMB2 in the series.  It's Sonic-quality.

Best handheld original Mario is probably 3D Land.  That's kind of depressing, actually.

:maf

I'm not saying SML2 didn't have problems. But it was really inventive and creative. The variety of the worlds is a breath of fresh air even today, as are the bosses and enemies.

I'll knock it for the low area of visibility, and being slow, and being short. But I still think it's the best. *shrug*

No way NSMB or SML1 are better than it. Those are at least three tiers down.

Also I think this VC version runs faster than the original. I just played the original recently too. Maybe it's not as fast, but Mario no longer ghosts at all. Definite step up.

Is there any way to switch run/jump to Y/B? The B/A setup cramps my thumb. :(

lolol buying stuff on that bad network. enjoy having to transfer everything every time.

::)

Lol you're in the same boat if you bought anything from the eShop, or indeed have saved data on the system. There isn't any difference just cause it's a retail title, so you'll be transferring right there with me. Which it actually seems like you'll have to do more than me.

I enjoy having all my comics and books on me whenever I have my N7, and games for 3DS are no different. If I'm able to carry around an assortment of games with me without worrying about losing those tiny ass carts or fumbling around with them to switch games, then count me in.
