I left the US with the Nexus 4 still out of stock at google play. A few days before my trip my roommate bought it from someone on Craigslist, he seems to love it a lot sans the weak battery life. With rumors of the Samsung S4 just around the corner I'm wondering if I should wait for that. I really dug the S3, except for the disgusting manufacturer/carrier bloat of course.

For those more knowledgeable in androids, is it better to get the latest google phone or the latest high end device (the next Galaxy, for instance), root it, then install a stock OS? I'm really picky when it comes to phones, I hate regularly upgrading my phones. I tend to buy a solid choice and stick with it until it completely dies.

Weaker than the S3, according to my roommate. He upgraded from the S3 to the N4, and doesn't have any regrets beside the battery.

Google Music

Not having a huge chunk of phone memory tied up with music is the best.

My smartphone history was the T-mobile Dash 3G -> T-mobile G1 -> Pixi Plus (WebOS)

I'm getting closer and closer to having a great phone. I hated android on the G1 but I'm sure its a ton better now. I really like WebOS, it makes me wish the ecosystem took off. It has a nice podcast catcher and player though which is all I really need.

You pin albums, playlists, songs, etc. to be offline selectively. It updates automatically so if you add a new song via the web interface to a pinned playlist, it'll be downloaded fairly instantly (like installing apps from the web.)

My only warning is to be prepared about the battery life, it's likely not as terrible as my GN but I heard it isn't terrific either.

I got my first mobile phone a couple of months ago, a HTC Sensation XE. It's not the latest but had the combo of features I was after.

Any better browser than Dolphin? I tried all the major ones and they all seemed to suck for tabbed browsing, Dolphin has been doing the trick. And it has those plugins which are useful I guess.

I actually love my phone still. Android is superior in terms of hw and UI and I'm going to miss it. But ultimately feel like those are less important to me than apps. I like apps a lot and the iPhone does a serviceable job of smart phones while having a premiere smartphone app roll out. On the other hand, the android phones have superior feature set but have a god awful store. Both are completely imperfect and I'd rather have apps than features I don't use such as Google Now or that personalized google page.

They have one about every two weeks, and just had one, so best to wait. If you don't want to, you can start and just keep rerolling (uninstalling, reinstalling and starting over) until you get a good lead monster. This thread will explain more:
