The bird is out and getting to room temperature. I'm cutting up onions, celery, carrots, and rosemary to put in the roasting pan with some turkey stock. Gonna cook the bird breast side down since it was in a salt solution and all the moisture is gonna get sucked out of the bird. Then 2/3 the way through I gotta flip it.

we ended up making 8 pumpkin pies, the missus and I stayed up all night baking till 7am. We are only keeping one pie, the rest are going to family/friends. We had leftover's and so we made little ones, they came out like little assholes.

I know where my tongue is going tonight!

I'm chilling in bed. Not heading to my parents house for at least another hour or two :bow

Sounds like no one else is coming outside of one of my brothers.

Really hungover. Had to pull over on the way to my grandparents so I could puke. Could be a rather terrible thanksgiving this year.

Had some turkey, some stuffing, some corn pudding, some mash potatoes, and I smothered it all in brown gravy. Also, some yeast rolls with homemade honey butter.  :drool

That sucks. We get Aooni IPA here and I don't think it's that bad.

Do you have a Muji nearby that has food? I got Kiuchi Pale Ale and White there for pretty cheap.

Ooh! I will give that a shot; I never would have thought to try "muji" (generic) for brand-name beer... :lol

Made spaghetti with homemade sauce, which my wife and kids were pretty enthusiastic about making disappear before my eyes. All in all, a good thanksgiving feast!

the turkey is resting, I hope its good. The stuff on the bottom is going into the blendtec with some flour to make a simple gravy.

Oh man, G, dat turkey :drool

We hosted Thanksgiving at our house on the actual day for my mom and dad and sister. Did we keep it small and simple? Oh fuck no. Made the same amount of food as last year when we had twice the people.

  • Brined a turkey in a crazy salt, broth, herb mix, then rubbed down the turkey with a butter/fresh herb mix (even under the skin). My god, juicy. I don't even like turkey. Mmmm
  • Homemade cranberry sauce
  • Green bean casserole from scratch and dairy-free! GTFO with Campbell's soup
  • Sweet potato casserole - Ruth's Chris Steakhouse recipe from a friend who used to work there
  • Garlic mashed potatoes and gravy
  • STL-style salad with provel cheese and homemade sweet Italian dressing and croutons
  • Some kind of sage stuffing
  • Sweet corn
  • Rolls
  • Pumpkin cupcakes
  • Pumpkin pie - by my mom

There may have been more, because we couldn't even see the table. Even cooked an extra sweet potato and roasted a pumpkin so the baby could enjoy the feast. My parents bust their ass all day and watch the baby for free, so it's the least we can do for them. I can't afford to shell out the $1100/month we'd have to pay a daycare (because if I could, I'd gladly give it to them anyway), but I can cook a mad fucking Thanksgiving meal.

I still can't eat dairy with the baby, so only the salad and pumpkin pie had dairy. Had to do a lot from scratch to avoid it and so wouldn't taste like a "substitute", and honestly, it all tasted identical or way better than usual. My husband was in charge of the turkey and my mom the pie, but I did everything else with a teething baby attached to my hip. :rock Cookin yummy shits
