Steam Autumn Sale
« on: November 21, 2012, 01:03:41 PM »
From now until the 26th

Flash Sales are back!

Walking Dead is the cheapest than its ever been and the last episode just came out.

KOTOR2 is $2.50.  First time it has been on sale, I think.  Recently a fan mod came out to 'complete' the game.

Darksiders 2 for $17!
XCOM for $33.

How are the Walking Dead games? Everyone has such nice things to say about them, but I hated the comic's relentless snuff.

It looks like a lot of indie games are 40-50% off already, so I'd expect some 66%-75% deep cuts by the end of the sale. From my wishlist:

Half Minute Hero: 40% ($6)
Din's Curse: 40% ($6)
Anna: 50% ($5)
Giana Sisters: 40% ($9)
Hotline Miami: 25% ($7.50)
Jet Set Radio: 50% ($5)
Avernum Bundle 4,5,6: 50% ($6)
Mark of the Ninja: 25% ($11.24)

No discounts currently on:
Retro City Rampage, Thomas Was Alone

Finally, Skyrim has a default 33% discount at the start of the sale, so I'm hoping it hits 50% for the first time.

EDIT: GMG confirms Skyrim and Dishonored at 50% this Friday

lots of people make bad decisions but it's mostly side characters who practically shout "one episode wonders" so far

i grew dispirited by the comic but have enjoyed the game thus far.

TWG is currently in the upper tier running for GOTY.

i feel like a cheap bastard, but given my frustration issues, i'm gonna wait for xcom to hit $20

yeah, it's pretty obvious that kirkman emptied his idea bucket in the walking dead comic around 20 issues ago and is just treading water nowadays, but the game is really decent (other than typical adventure game control jank)

Hmm, well at $12.50 I'll give it a try. I should say "hate" the comic's relentless snuff - first 3 arcs weren't so bad - but boy it went downhill fast

Is Walking Dead worth trying if you are sick of zombies, have never read the comic/seen the show, and aren't huge into adventure games?

Maybe I'll pick up Hotline Miami. Gameplay looks kinda weak in it but I've heard people say I'd really like the music in it.

Hold off on Hotline until the last day.  Anything that isn't a flash or daily deal could always become cheaper during a flash or daily deal.

Walking Dead isn't much of an adventure game.  It's closer to a visual novel or Heavy Rain where it's about the choices you make.  The game is at its worse when it becomes a 'game' and relies on QTEs and stuff.  Most of it is talking with people, making decisions, and dealing with the consequences...it's more interesting than it sounds.  And Walking Dead in general is about the human drama of surviving the zombie apocalypse, more than the actual zombies.  It depends on what aspect of zombie fiction you're sick of.

Still have too much games from the last couple of sales that I haven't played so I'll only bite for great deals. The games I really want like X-Com or Dishonored probably aren't going to be cheap enough.

Yes, I'm pretty sure you'll enjoy it. It's not really a traditional adventure game, more like an interactive story. I've only read the first chapter of the comics and I've not seen the TV show yet. Zombies are just the setting, the interesting part is the interaction between the living characters.

Trying to get Gods & Kings from GMG with their extra 20% code but it's not working. Will have to do some address shenanigans with my amazon account then.

got Walking Dead, Kotor II (played about 20hrs of this on Xbox back in the day and basically enjoyed it despite many many flaws, keen to see the patched version), and the Amazing Spiderman game for 50% off (probably won't play it seriously but the kid will likely enjoy swinging around for a bit).

I bought Walking Dead even though I probably won't play it before it's 75% off in a few months >_<

Since I'm only getting through like 1 game a month these days, there's really not much point in buying things that aren't at 75%.  Sadly that means I will not be buying Hotline Miami this sale.

steam wont allow me to use their store since i'm currently living in europe and all my credit cards and bank accounts are from the united states. i'm too scared to even try using a vpn or proxy to get around the issue since i know as of late they've been banning users who use that work around. i'll be contacting customer support but i'm positive the sale will be over before they even get to my message. i just want unity command and cargo commando... and maybe a million other things

So, like, I had the same problem since I live in South Korea but my card is registered in Canada. All I did was enter my Canadian address as normal, but changed my country to SK... for some reason that works and I've never had a problem. Consider it.

What say ya'll about Two Worlds II + DLC for $7.49?

I enjoyed my 30 hours or so with it, but it's full on euro jank.  Horse controls are weird and you can easily goof up your build to make yourself way under-powered for your current objectives.

It ain't that bad if you wanted to score the Skyrim DLC for half-off.  Bethesda is stingy about Skyrim since it's such a success.

Still, this is the Thanksgiving sale.  Winter sale will be better.
