Beats by Dre
« on: November 30, 2012, 06:09:23 PM »
Good or garbage?

Mostly I'm just looking for some insight into how I should be passing judgement on the people I see wearing them—which is presumptively the reason they bought them.

they are very late to the party and have generic taste in fashion.

I've seen a bunch of people with the earbuds too, which are fugly as shit and $150:

the whole point of beats is to be seen with them-- I thought these were some Skullcandy bullshit.   The cord is way thick and unwieldy.

yeah, I don't get how beats are supposed to be headphones for the style conscious, every pair I've seen is corny in that hip fashionable 'look at me' way.

They're laughably over priced. Dre doesn't even use them when recording music...

Audio-Technica ATH-M50 and Sony MDR-7506's or V6's. There's no justifying $300 for headphones unless they're god tier

Beats are an artist endorsed thing made by Monster so they're doubly overpriced for no real good reason. The low end on them is fantastic but the mid and high ranges are kind of shit which is absolutely unacceptable for what they ask for the things. If you're after an artist endorsed pair of cans the Aviator skullcandy headphones with cam-l's sign off sound good across all ranges and not just low end but obviously there's probably better headphones out there for less.

I heard these are comparable to beats...

http://solrepublic.com/shop/tracks-on-ear-headphones.html

they've been a backburner purchase for over a year. I have some phillips ones I got for dirt cheap that fall into the 'good enough' category, so I can never pull the trigger.

Never got why those are considered fashionable, to me it looks distinguished mentally-challenged how the strap protrudes over the head.

Beats are fairly decent headphones that are moderately overpriced. If you are looking for the type of monitoring that Beats do, which is providing impressive and distinct bass, looking into Sennheisers would be a terrible mistake, as they are made for listening to entirely different types of music and their users expect a different sound.

I have a pair of HD-25's and they are absolutely incredible and don't suffer on bass at all. They're pretty much industry-standard for EDM DJs.

This is as good a place as any:

So my old earbuds are fucked up. I lent them to a friend a while back and now the right side is trashed, a in cuts in and out and when its working it barely shows a third of what it should. So I was wondering what are the best earbuds around? I'm more into that then headphones which I never got the appeal for.

Not the best around, but they sound awesome and last forever, in my experience:
http://www.amazon.com/Sennheiser-MK-II-Precision-Enhanced/dp/B001EZYMF4/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1354380971&sr=8-1&keywords=sennheiser+cx300

Senn CX300b.  Has a comfortable, air tight fit, great bass + treble with a slightly weaker mid range. isolates sound perfectly and doesn't bleed your music to everyone around.  $35.

Audio technica's are the shit. I got a pair of Grados too that are great. Monster and all of those other brands offer you a style, and ok sound. Why not spend less and get some truly great head phones?

I actually think that Dre is in a powerful enough position to bang hot-starlets jockey-style, and not really care.

Doggy style is faux-power.

Dre is an ugly fucker too.

Had those for awhile, fantastic headphones for djing and and like you say, they have a great bass response. I think Eric Prdyz uses them for on the road production, so they aren't too shabby in other ares as well. Also 70 Bucks cheaper than the Dre's...

Klipsch makes some good stuff, I have their S4i and the sound is pretty damn good for a sub-$100 pair of buds.  I used to have a pair of Westone UM2s, which sounded amazing, but one of the ears started to die after like 3 years of constant use.  I should try and get them repaired someday.

I had a friend at work compare his Dr. Dre's to my "modded" Sennheiser HD-555 cans. He was convinced that his sounded better; I think he just likes heavier bass, or was trying to rationalize the price difference.

I have a pair of Klipsch Image S4 earbuds as well; they are a little weird to get situated properly, but they sound good once they're in position.

Yep, probably the best earbuds you can get for $50.
Thanks! I saw that they were well-reviewed, retailed at $80, so when Amazon had them on sale for ~$30, I bit.
