Django Unchained - holy fuck this film is black power defined

He never really felt like the main character until the white dude died. Then they have to spend another 30 mins building him up as the real main character.

That is what i read from some reviews. One good thing that this movie did was build interest in talking about it. There are so many view points on this film. I do enjoy reading all the reviews I have come across.

He's sympathetic and realistic. Well not even realistic since he slaughtered a plantation house full of racists. And yes, he does get revenge on the people who were selling him and his wife. He even whips one of them!

Would Roots or any other movie about slavery not be interesting to you?

Yeah a lot of movies do the strong, black character mentored by an older white dude cliche (Antoine Fisher, Men of Honor) but he was a FUCKING SLAVE that got turned into a bounty hunter within 10 minutes. He was literally in chains, other than that he had nothing holding him back and the German dude didn't even do much beyond teach him how to shoot.

The white guy broke Django's chains and set him down the right path, it was Django's decision to keep going down that path and get a little vengeance on the people [and the sorts of people] that put those chains on him in the first place. And calling King a "puppetmaster" is pretty ridiculous, I think, as there are several key moments where it's abundantly clear that Django isn't just taking orders from King or hanging around in the background until things are taken care of.

Specifically, when Django kills two of the bounties on the plantation without waiting for King to show up and when he pulls King out of the fire over the Mandingo fighter that Candie was going to have killed. Plus, King got himself killed over a matter of pride, while Django seemed like he was more willing to swallow his pride if it meant getting the job done.

The plot of that film isn't about him saving every Jew, nor is Django Unchained about Django free every black slave. It's a typical revenge flick about someone trying to free his wife - and it happens to be set during slavery.

Why is there a problem with me deciding what I choose to expose myself to? Is it because everyone is watching it and most people accept this film? Im glad for that, but I can not enjoy these kinds of films anymore. People may call me stupid, moronic, an asshole, or whatever they may please. But I wont change my decision on the manner.

I did like Last summer's Batman, I liked James Bond.... i usually enjoy fantasy movies and sci fi. My favorite from 2012 was The Avengers.

Tbf, I watched these before I decided to be more selective. Yet I do think these films would still pass because there are less black stereotypes in them. Partly because there are few black actors playing in these movies. But the few black actors that played in these films, were not part of any stereotype that I have found demeaning.

what's there to touch upon? As a viewer, you expect Django to kill Candi because you want it to happen. QT is a film maker and sometimes in films, doing the opposite of what the viewer wants is the superior choice.
