What do you think about this post?
http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=508178

Quote
Replaying Jak 2, it's apparent Naughty Dog simply got lucky with Uncharted

By lucky I mean they obviously stumbled into a style of gameplay that they're actually competent at making (excuse me . . . copying). Jak 2 is such a bumbling, poorly designed game that if it weren't for the good will engendered by the first game in the series the company deserved to crash and burn after the offensiveness of Jak 2. It's an incompetently executed knock off of the GTA formula that failed as a game after the the studio was capable of making a competent knock-off of the Mario formula with the first game.

Obviously, with Uncharted, ND discovered that they apparently had the skill set to actually pull off a competent knock off of the third person cover shooter and probably held a party at the office celebrating that they'd found a gameplay mechanic they could execute with some finesse.

Now, following this logic it's quite obvious why "The Last of Us" - judging by all released media to date - seems to play in a highly similar fashion to Uncharted. They're not quite ready to move on to something different for fear of giving up the one game mechanic they've found themselves capable of actually delivering with. Of course, this begs the question . . . how long can Naughty Dog milk this style of gameplay before gamers realize they're a one-trick pony? Will the management actually risk trying something completely different on PS4, and thus exposing the company as incapable of making anything beyond this one style of game in a competent manner?

I'll wait to see what Bayo 2 is like before getting a Wii U. Not sure what Fire Emblem or SRW will be like on the Wii U either.

I liked Bayonetta except for all the button mashing finishers and some of the QTEs. And I wish they'd patched the Kilgore rocket glitch.

The worst thing about Bayonetta are the Alfheim missions - or rather, how you're forced to play them whenever you want to play for score/Pure Platinum ranking. I don't want to throw the entire concept under the bus because a lot of them are fun combat arenas, but there are also a bunch of them that put stupid, arbitrary limitations on you that are absolutely no fun to complete, let alone score well on. Button mashing finishers also suck because the faster you mash, the more points you get, so you have to hammer some button ALL THE TIME. And of course everything involving vehicles is god awful.

It's a good game though. Of course I'm going to wait for more footage and info about Bayonetta 2 before buying a Wiiu, but it should be excellent if they were able to identify all of the problems and bad design choices in the original.

A real Metroid title. Would be nice if it was from Retro. And if not from Retro, a new IP from Retro would be nice.

Oh and a price cut.

Meaningful interaction with the 3DS would be nice. I already have two of them in my house so anything that makes them more useful would be welcome. What if Nintendoland, along with what was included, had a bunch of games built around the idea that each person has their own 3DS. My kid and several of her friends have them, they could all gather together and each have their own screen. Heck, even just being able to control Netflix with the 3DS while the gamepad is charging would be nice. Or browsing Miiverse

Not to mention the shit Sony is doing like Cross-buy. Doesn't Monster Hunter let you play co-op between the 3DS and WiiU? I might give the WiiU a second look once that is out. I never got into Monster Hunter on the PSP but I really did like God Eater. I think the addition of a lock on in the 3DS game (like God Eater had) might be enough to get me into it

Yeah, you can play local multiplayer with the Wii U version with three other 3DS's. Or of course, if you're going 3DS only you can link up to four of them.

I don't know if the lock on thing is like you're imagining.

In God Eater it locks on to the center of a monster so when targeting specific areas you need to line it up yourself. But it was useful for keeping track of the monsters as they rushed around. Doesn't the new Monster Hunter have a similar lock on? I remember 8-4 Play talking about it but maybe they were talking about a MH4 demo

That said the two game are very different. But enjoying God Eater makes me want to give MH a second look

It's like an action-focused Pikmin. You coral a bunch of people to make giant fists and stuff to beat the bad guys, by drawing like a fist on the touchscreen. I think. TBH it's a hard game to understand even watching it being played

If you've ever played Kirby Mass Attack for DS, I'd chalk it up to being more like that than a traditional RTS (with base building and automatic combat and all that jazz).. you manage a small army and use special moves by drawing motions on the U screen (like, draw a line up to turn your guys into a sword). In the Comic Con demo I played, there's also a gimmicky first person part where you have to look down at the screen and solve a basic puzzle, and a few occasional buttomash QTEs.

They all add some variety and challenge. There's nothing technically wrong with the vehicle sections either, they're all competent mini-games with responsive controls and their own scoring sections. If you think they're stupid/bad "just because".. well whatever.

Of course Nintendo fans don't want console wars, they're already feeling picked on and marginalized as it is.

I'm excited to see what the next gen has in store, but with a nice PC and more games than I could play in my lifetime right now, my interest in new systems isn't what it used to be.

They do add variety, but they do not play to the game's strengths. Again, I'd have no problem with the Alfheims that place limitations on your moveset/abilities if they were one-off challenge rooms. They're fine to complete once as 'puzzles', but they are a chore replay. What's especially baffling about this is how Kamiya had already done it right with DMC: you never have to play a Secret Mission again once you've obtained the reward from it, and that's how it should be.

I don't like the vehicles sections because the stage design is repetitive and imo the mechanics are poor in comparison to the games they're trying to 'pay tribute to', but I still wouldn't want them in the game even if they were good. I play hack & slash action games because I want to hack & slash - everything else is filler.

It would be like playing Dodonpachi, and all of a sudden there's a platforming stage in between 1-3 and 1-4 because Ikeda thought Super Mario Bros was really cool. Nobody wants that.
