Summerslam looks like an interesting card on paper, then I read the synopsissies for the feuds and was

Samoa Joe and AJ's angle, instead of being about their nearly 20 year history together sounds like it's about to bring Claire Lynch into WWE canon. It's not a dream match, it's not about two of the best in the work like Nak/AJ despite them being in the same company for like 2 years and having all of ONE match against each other in NJPW when Joe/AJ have had a series of classics going back 15 years, but it's about Joe repeatedly saying that AJ is a deadbeat father/husband and cares more about wrestling than his family

Braun has been murdering KO for like 3 months straight, for some reason KO gets a shot at the MITB case, which I don't think has been defended at all in years.

If Bliss gets ANY offense on Ronda

expecting a lot of fuckery with the finish to keep Ronda chasing the title probably up to WM

Nakamura vs Jeff Hardy Oh Jeff is an absolute physical wreck whose years of crazy bumps and spots are seeming to catch up to him all at once, Nakamura is literally just a dude who hits people in the balls for fun

Miz vs Bryan finally happens but it's a last minute thing because Kane got hurt and elected mayor so Team Hell No angle got put on hold and this was the back up in what could have and should have been held off to WM but will no probably happen for the next 4 months straight

Brock vs Roman Part 7 The New Blood built entirely around Brock doesn't give a shit about WWE and is just phoning it in and you should hate him for it, also can Roman overcome the odds THIS time? And if he doesn't

And if he does

Crowd is going to eat them up, better hope for a cash in to save it

New Day vs Bludgen Bros will probably be fine but that's a match that's gone down 20 times over the past 3 years

Bo/Axel vs The Revival

Cruiserweight title staying on the pre-show

Another Balor/Corbin match

Another Ziggler/Rollins match

Rusev going from WWE Championship match at the last PPV to preshow mixed tag at the second biggest show of the year

I haven't trial spammed for a while, I guess I'll redo one this weekend and check this and NXT out. I haven't seen any TV from main roster or NXT since WM time so I'm not really sure what's going on with NXT especially but those cards tend to deliver even if they seem tired or not that great on paper. EC3 vs Dream might be awful tho

It's another five hour PPV, yeah. Seven counting the pre-show.

I think I feel obligated to watch these PPVs since I'm being dumb and paying for the network instead of doing that free month trick you were talking about before. If I stop...I probably won't watch it all anymore. And that doesn't sound too bad- but I don't mind using it as background noise either and looking over if something interesting happens.

Have gotten to the point now where it's the norm for me to not watch weekly TV at all.

I tried to keep up with IMpact and MLW, but already got off track. Regular WWE TV I don't think I've watched on a consistent weekly basis in literally 10 years or more. Occasional Raw before or after a PPV, but the last few years it's been tune in for the Raw after WM (which I've shut off after the first hour for the past 2-3 years) or when something super big is hyped and then I get pissed I ended up having garbage shoved in my face for 3 hours to get to that something big. Just do the PPVs and sometimes I don't finish or watch them at all either.

I was keeping up with NXT and 205 but haven't watched either of them since around WM either. I skipped out on NJPW entirely between Wrestle Kingdom and the US show, and even following the G1 I skipped the A block except for one match and skipped about 15 of the other block matches. I got other shit to do in my life.

At this point I get most of my wrestling updates from Coli thread titles and twitter gifs

Takeover was a good show as usual. Fucking loooooooooooooooooooooooooool at Gargano losing via Looney Tunes finish. I get the story of Johnny being so shook and out of control that he costs himself victories over Ciampa, but this particular one was hilarious and made even better when they showed the replace and Johnny actually missed Ciampa completely with the knee strike that was to end this once and for all. I'm ready for this feud to be over, though. The first match was actually the blow off match but they've kept it going for another 4 months

EC3 vs Dream was better than expected, although certainly the least match of the show. EC3 is really not good and I really don't know why WWE hired him back beyond TNA couldn't keep him anymore and he had a bit of a "name" now. Like yeah, he's super jacked and has a disgusting tan that makes his disgusting body acne look more disgusting, but his promos suck, and in the ring he's clumsy and stiff (I mean lack of flexibility, not hits too hard) due to his bulk.

at Dream's tights though "Call me up, Vince".

Mustache Mountain vs Undisputed Era was probably match of the night. It's funny, I've never given a shit about any of the guys in UE, but they've been consistently in the best matches every Takeover since they formed, so it's pretty hard to keep up the hate with a straight face at this point. It's also still crazy to me that Tyler Bate is only 21. Even crazier to think about: Brock was TWENTY FOUR when he was the face of Smackdown. Still a kid!

Adam Cole vs Ricochet also pretty close to being MOTN. Some really crazy spots in it, the absurd superkick out of a lionsault that hit so fucking hard it looked like it broke Ricochet's neck, and the mainline WWE debut of the now super common in lucha rana from the apron to the floor that I think Gran Metalik did in the CWC but not since.

Bazler vs Sane was neat. Bazler does a lot of really gnarly looking stuff that literally no one else in the company does. I think it's more her her catch than MMA background, but she does some really torturous shit not seen since the heyday of the Andersons.

As always, the pacing is one of the best parts of Takeovers, as there's no fluff and it's usually no longer than 2 1/2 hours, right at the point where most people start mentally checking out of a show. Meanwhile, Summerslam will be 7 hours tonight
