Having a match within the first 10mins of Raw, Seth acting like he's got a spine for once as the champ, a bunch of people that have been background or not even on TV having time in the spotlight, promos from almost everyone (Lacey pls) being really good, and the matches were engaging as well. Even Roman had a good segment.

It definitely felt a lot different than the past month or so. I dunno, I actually felt compelled to watch this week when I normally just have it on the background.

And don't forget LOTS OF BARON CORBIN!!  Because that's what we ALL wanted!   :doge

Stomping Grounds is like a re-run of Super Showdown with a few Mania rematches thrown in.  So completely unexcited for it.

I think the ending actually showed Corbin how he should be booked: as a vicious dick. Not saying he's not good as a smarmy ass but 1) that's been ruined by bad writing for him.  2) every fucking wwe heel is a smarmy ass character.

So yeah it wasn't perfect but I'm willing to give WWE credit when they do something right and I think last night was a step up in quality.

I watched the "special edition" NXT from Maryland from a couple weeks back and I'm going to go out on a limb:

Kushida has absolutely no future in WWE, even NXT and 205 Live, beyond "guy we put on TV once in a while to have a solid match and talk about how big of a star he was on the indies/Japan". His signing had no hype to begin with, he signed with the company at the end of January and has been on TV like 3-4 times, against low, low card guys and even a 205 midcarder. He doesn't have the presence or charisma to stand out like Nakamura, the history hype and style of KENTA that made him stand out (even if that went to shit for multiple reasons not all of which were KENTA's fault), and there are 15 other guys all set to debut in NXT at the same time that are going to leap frog him immediately. They're just now working in teams and talent they've had on the backburner for 2+ years. And now they're about to debut 8 "names" all at once, they still have Riddle's rise, Keith Lee/Dijakovic not doing shit, former NXT talent are returning....Kushida is going to do absolutely nothing of note in WWE. He signed at the worst possible time.

I caught up on a couple of Network docs and man, Seth Rollins seems inescapably depressed and miserable. Even when he's a talking head in something like Becky's 24, he's so worn down and zombified. Then you'll see him walking around in other ones in the background or telling someone good job after a match and he's just  :goty2 in every shot.

I mean, I honestly don't give a shit about that sort of thing as long as they're not saying garbage person shit like racist crap or whatever. They can say wtf they want out of work about the biz and it won't bug me, obvs anything they say while still working in Vince's salt mines is suspect AF but whatever, who cares. Rollins has been booked pretty well (as far as WWE in 2019 goes, anyway, and compared to the rest of the shit show) so that's all I really care about. Just stop feuding him with Corbin, who is AT BEST a midcard heel, and stop feuding Becky with Lacey Evans, who needs to go back to NXT and figure out how to wrestle. And quit fucking pairing them up just cause they're fucking, who cares.

Yeah I know that's why I wanted to comment about how miserable and zombified he looks. He's going hard, getting into twitter spats with randos and Jericho/Ospreay, doing interviews shitting on one of his best friends for leaving the wrong way despite Ambrose fulfilling his contractual obligations, giving a long heads up that he wasn't going to re-sign, and doing everything asked of him on the way out. "Took his ball and went home" is a clear Vince or possibly Bruce Prichard directive, as that was the phrase used repeatedly about Austin until it finally Jedi mind tricked Austin into regretting walking out 15 years later. As the top guy he should be defending his company, but the way that he's doing it is blatant stoogery and it's just going to turn public will against him if he keeps it up. Austin and Hogan wouldn't be getting into flame wars with trolls on the tweeties when nerds complain about the booking. He seems to me to be in the same headspace Ambrose was in in the mini doc about his injury recovery. IE: Completely mentally defeated, broken, and checked out.

Evolve's 10th anniversary show is airing on WWE Network, with multiple NXT talents on the show (including Adam Cole vs Akira Tozawa for the NXT Championship). It happens to be at the same time as AEW's Fight For the Fallen PPV with portions of the proceeds going to victims of shooting violence. Kenny Omega was not happy about it:

His tweet:
Quote
“If lining your pockets with blood money is okay, then what’s wrong with trying to undermine a charity show for victims of gun violence? I hear that healthy competition is supposed to be a good thing and yet I can’t help but feel like I’m gonna be sick.”

Of course, it was quickly deleted. He's right that the Saudi deal is gross, and he's right that running against a charity show is also gross, but at the same time: I'm sure Evolve would have preferred their show not be airing at the same time as an AEW show, they're in different parts of the country so it's not like the fans have to choose, and they're also on VOD streaming subscriptions so fans can watch either at their leisure, and you can't keep having talents take shots and expect WWE not to respond.

Also Kenny just jobbed clean in the main event to a guy who took $100K of Saudi blood money, in a match with commentary from an announcer that took Saudi blood money, on a card with multiple other talents that took Saudi blood money, and the Khan family also does business with KSA and also invests in a sweat shop in China that is constantly hit with human rights violations sooo.... :neogaf

yep, that era of smackdown was great. rey, benoit, angle, edge, and eddie plus heyman writing :delicious brock and cena popped in around that time too (2004?)

meanwhile raw was the hhh and ric flair show with a bonus bischoff/stone cold feud as co-GM's :fbm

Heyman had been working on certain storylines and with certain talents, including Ronda Rousey, Brock Lesnar, Alexa Bliss and many others dating back far before that point.  He's been in the inner circle when it comes to the creative process for some time without an official title.  He and WWE have been circling around this deal for a long time and finally came to terms recently.

Quote
To say this is a massive return to form for Bischoff is a grand understatement.  We are told that WWE approached him about the role and that his previous work in collaborating with Turner Broadcasting. Spike and other networks in building past TV series was one of the reasons Bischoff was pitched for the position.

Quote
We are told that they will be overseeing all aspects of their individual series, answering directly to Vince McMahon.  They are now the top of the pyramid, respectively, for Raw and Smackdown but obviously McMahon will always have the last say.  One WWE source compared their roles to Paul Levesque's in NXT in that they will be in charge, but it's still Vince's company.

The most recent examples of booking from Paul Heyman and Eric Bischoff:

The ECW reboot in 2006, which culminated in what is widely thought to be the worst WWE PPV of all time in quality and buy rates, which was followed with Heyman's immediate termination.
