Yeah, iirc, that was intrinsic to the previous games in the series. If they'd left that out, they'd have been in deep doo-doo.

Stealth games are hot right now, so I'd have been really surprised if no-kill runs weren't included.

Nothing has come even remotely close to any Thief game, as far as I know.  This is so awesome. :hyper

And yes, you can complete the game without killing anybody – Garrett is a Master Thief, not a killing machine!

I haven't played a significant amount of Dishonored to know if this is true for the entire product, but it felt much closer to Deus Ex than Thief.

only played a little of Dishonored, but it was kinda lame as far as stealth goes I thought. It makes a better action game, given how hella OP the player character is and how bum fuck dumb the enemies are.

yeah, that's the feeling I got from it.

We'll see if Teef is more flexible but the series' past is: stealth or get fucked.

I did a ghost playthrough of Dishonored and it's fairly easy as far as stealth goes, but it's not bad. The blink alone makes traversal rather trivial and further reveals how daft the guards are, but I don't remember them being much smarter in any Thief game. If you turned the UI cues off and abstained from using blink it would play very much the same, if perhaps a little more frustrating since there's no hide in shadows mechanic or UI to tell you how well you're hidden. But there are a lot of places in every level that you can rely on being safe hiding places, so it might even out.

Tomb Raider used to be: platform correctly or get fucked.

but strict challenge is "old game design"

I think you mean "bad game design" Don. we are more civilized now, we have focus groups and stat tracking.

the trailer that's coming out tomorrow came out early, was taken down in some places.  it's basically the old one that leaked, with the added tagline "WHAT'S YOURS IS MINE":

teaser:

and this was the teaser for the teaser.  teaser's teaser is in-engine.  don't know about the teaser.

edit: from the description

Quote
A first-person adventure featuring intelligent design that allows players to take full control, with freedom to choose how they approach and overcome each challenge and forge their own path through the game.

Read into that how you will.

there's an anecdote about hiding in a guard's shadow cast by the lantern he's holding. see:

Apparently PS4 Thief will look almost as good as PC version(runs on UE3).It will run at 30 fps because Edios would "prefer to have better physics" in PS4 Thief than a smoother "60 frames per second frame rate".

Did anyone really think most devs would spring for 60 FPS instead of prettier graphics?

Save us Platinum Games you're our only hope. :'(

I had a lot of fun with Thief back in the day. Not usually a fan of stealth games but this has my attention.

Edit: Apparently there are some gameplay details that are not so good. :'(

New playthrough is much better than the gametrailers one.  In that one the player was caught and the game broke down.  So, if you play stealthy and never get caught, the game works.  Oddly appropriate for a Thief game.  The Thiefguy implies that you can adjust or turn off the dark borders and other hud elements.

That gameplay looked pretty enjoyable, although the fog around the edge of the screen is lame.  I hate any visual thing that blocks off part of the screen.

Edit: apparently, you may be able to turn that fog crap off.  Sure hope so.

Nothing has come even remotely close to any Thief game, as far as I know.  This is so awesome. :hyper

I haven't, but I've thought about giving it a shot a few times.

Definitely consider doing so. For me, it was one of the best gaming experiences of 2012.

Right now it's $20 on Steam, and the three pieces of DLC are just another $10.

Eidos got spooked--  Teef is now coming to PS3 and Xbox 360

and Nixxes is working the PC version, and will likely be part of one of those AMD Never Sleep bundles next year.
