I love this truth bomb that all the fanboys just discount. You've had the iphone 3G, Iphone 5s, confusing mixes of ipad and ipod  models, xbox one which is really the xbox 3, etc, that have sold well.

But only the Wii U is this thing that is completely unfathomable to the masses. It couldn't just be that the product isn't interesting to the masses or doesn't intrigue them enough to find out what it is.

Mainly, it's the lack of mascots in the modern era but the personification of the companies through their executives is part of the simplification of the operation of the industry necessary to continue the tribal fermentation. To suggest that Reggie or Kaz ISN'T sitting there plotting how best to smackdown Microsoft with a tweet or statement or orchestrating the creation of new art or scheming to yank down Mattrick's pants in the bathroom at E3 is to suggest they are lax in the ultimate fandom goal of winning through destroying the enemy.

The bonus is when your god-corporation is criticized you can fall back on "it's a business" as an ultimate dismissal of any and all consumer complaints.
