Where is the middle ground between frustrating/obtuse and easy, cheap gratification?

Skyrim is cheap shit. It's TES for babbes. Bethesda went too far on one side when they should've straddled the middle. As for exploration, Skyrim does do it better admittedly.

Other than Thieves Guild and Dark Brotherhood, Oblivion is shit. I thought Skyrim was shit all around, except for exploration.

The first few levels are the most difficult in that game because your heroes start at level 1. Buffs, potions, go all out. Kite him in a circle with your tank and have the rest pelt him with arrows if you need to cheese it. Soon enough you'll be exploding mobs left and right, but only if you make it past the valley (and caves) of undead soon after that part. Bring magic weapons for your melee fighters, they'll need them.
Did you get past the goblins on the edge of town without casualties?

I'll try that. I got through the goblins outside town without incident.

Early on you reload. You won't get revive spells until later on. Resurrect scrolls you get earlier but they are expensive, so hold onto those you find. Priests in town can resurrect your peeps as well, but I believe you have to lug their equipment around. And it costs money. And, worst of all, you'd have to walk to a priest first.
Quick save like you have never quick saved before.

The reason I like Morrowind so much was that everything was built around exploration. Rarely was there a quest that just pointed exactly where you had to be. You had to figure out where you had to be and how to get there, and whatever adventures you got along the way were up to you.

The fucking quest markers ruined everything I like about the series. It's not like the combat, magic and stealth systems have even risen above substandard.

I just didn't get Oblivion, why are there 16 of the same shit that I have to close with little as fuck variance between them fuck this I'm just going assassin's guild and when I'm done with that because it's not that long I'm dungeon crawling. The entire design of those games are designed around quest markers though. Morrowind gave you a rough idea on where to find/something or someone, Skyrim/Oblivion just points it at you, almost always not giving you enough information to figure it out for yourself if you decide to turn those off. Unless consulting guides/outside sources are allowed. I have other problems but that .jpg I'm too lazy to find basically sums it up. Not like I absolutely hate those games though, my honeymoon with Skyrim made me call it my 2011 GOTY (cause I'm a massive taco).
