TMI time: I was dating a girl who was undiagnosed bipolar or something thereof. Once she went manic, and went for the knives in the apartment. I had to physically restrain her. Luckily, she was short, so I just put the knives in a high cupboard. It was still a situation where I had think about legions of abusive males while staring at a knife in my face.

It's not okay for anyone to hit anyone but unless you're dealing with crazy, most hits are not unprovoked and any power differential between the couple means a slap from her is definitely not on the same level as a slap from him.

Yeah, I'm not saying it's okay for women to hit men, but to say that it's a double standard when men are much more powerful doesn't really make sense to me. Equality is fine, but let's not act like there aren't some biological differences between men and women include strength and power.

Obviously if a woman brandishes a weapon on you, you have free reign to defend yourself as you see fit. But under normal circumstances there's really no excuse for hitting a woman in a confrontation. It's too easy to either remove yourself from the situation or just physically restrain her.

Just make sure your mouth isn't level with her head, because if she headbutts you you'll be looking at thousands of dollars worth of dental work.

I'm not itching to a hit a woman; I would prefer not to, but if the situation arises and I've exhausted all other means to deescalate the situation (including walking away), then I will meet violence with violence. That doesn't mean that I will continue to beat her down until she's bloodied on the floor. No, I'm going to use whatever technique I know to end the situation as quickly and as safely as possible be it through restraining her, the use of pressure points, or strikes to some nerves (the common peroneal hurts like fuck). Once the threat is gone, I'm gone. I'd do the same if it were a guy.

You guys don't understand the real world. These are modern times where females are as nuts and sex-crazed as men, not chaste and respectful like they used to be. And if some one brings the disrespect then it's time to lay down the hurt. Whether it's a Gibbs Slap or a roundhouse kick.  You never know what kind of shit a female is going to pull on you, especially with the imbalance in the legal system. That's why you need to dispense street justice when necessary. Same as I would with any man. Equal rights to be laying in the gutter after trying something with me.

Hypothetical, but likely in my line of work. I work at a county jail and there have been times when both male and female officers have been attacked by female inmates. I've seen the damage that can happen (I'd rather get punched than scratched). With some females (and males), we have to have at least two officers present just to open the door. I know a female that can be completely nice one moment and then 250lbs of rage the next. For the most part, we treat males and females the same when it comes to physical confrontations.

Of course, in the free world, the likelihood of getting attacked by a woman is close to zero

You could be in the supermarket helping old ladies get things off higher shelves and checking out which of the cute college girls you're going to deploy your system on next when suddenly a certain class of woman starts yelling at some man and screaming about her food stamps and attacking everyone in sight. You know the type, they explode at a moments notice and get physical almost immediately. You have to be ready to defend yourself and others in those situations.
