Saturn had a lot going against it. There was much less reason to get one instead of a psx, compared to getting a genny over an snes even with sonic.

Nights was cool, though. Lotta sonic/sega fans I knew liked it including me. But unfortunately, most gamers don't have much loyalty, and there was little reason to stick around a dying system in 1997.

So today I realized that this is the first console generation where I'm not the least bit interested in the consoles. I've been playing games for a long, long time and I've always anticipated getting a new system. Each new system always brings something new to the table that you couldn't do before. But this is the first time in my gaming history I've seen consoles not bring a single unique thing. Like, Dead Rising 1, for instance. When it came out it was like, no way could this run on ps2 or xbox and look like this. The new systems have been out half a year and there's not even an announcement or reveal yet that shows something that truly sets these systems apart beyond slight improvements.

I didn't ignore the Saturn. I technically didn't have the need to buy one because a friend would bring his over regularly and we'd play Nights, Panzer Dragoon, AVP, Die Hard Arcade, Marvel Super Heroes, Virtua Fighter 2, Burning Rangers;etc. You were also the kid who had all the systems. You didn't HAVE to choose.

I bought a Saturn and I consider myself a fan of Sonic the Hedgehog. This might be due to Mega Drive days nostalgia, but it is still part of me. SEGA has way better properties though, have loved SEGA games since the master system and arcades.

Honestly, the only bad parts of Macross are Zero, Two, and F. F is corrected by the two movies. 7 gets shat upon, but it's ridiculous fun.  Zero at least has really good animation. So really the only terrible un-redeemable thing is Two.

Gundam has The Origin manga, Turn A, G Gundam, and the Trilogy.

Kind of hard to say which series is better honestly.

Pretty Good Gundam's: second half of ZZ, X, Seed, 0079 tv, Gunpla Builders

Solid Gundam's: F91, Unicorn OVA, Wing, Endless Waltz, Char's Counterattack

Bad Gundam's: First half of ZZ, Seed Destiny, 00 season 2, IGLOO


The only great Macross' are the original, its movie, and Plus. 2 is solid. The rest are mediocre. The latest Macross series was uguu pap. The reason we haven't seen a new Macross in years since is because Macross is and has been for nearly 20 years.

Gundam, for the most part, is highly consistent and if anything, is more consistent than Macross.

0083 is dogshit that just happens to be the best looking Gundam thing out there. Dosen't change that it has the most boring cast ever. Hey I'm Kou Araki, do you remember anything about me? No. How about my annoying and bitchy love interests Nina who somehow randomly was also involved in the one note Villain? We're any of these characters engaging or thier plot that in the end could have easily been left un-told? Nope. Extra points if you watch last Bits of Zeon where somehow Nina is even more clueless about her own life.

 There's nothing great about Victory which is just Tomino jerking off himself as he spits in your eye trying to make you feel depressed. Zeta may be the most terrible paced show out there. Yep, its the eve before the big factions make thier move, lets bring back a character no one remembers to have pointless antics! Why did we bring Four back after she died again? Who knows? Was it a good idea to put a a few disconnected Rosammy episodes that hurt the show's momentum? Not really. Oh maybe Zeta will get better with those movies. Oh wait they kind of forgot to include important character building for Char, that was a good idea.  Lets not even talk about ZZ.

How the hell is F91 solid when it feels like it's by the numbers? Have a Gundam main character feel bad about killing for a second? Check. Have dashing blonde character without actual substance? Check.  Have insane political agenda villains that are obviously wrong? Check. Ok you've made the most formulaic Gundam thing and then crammed it together and created a big mess.

Wing. Wing is almost a comedy in how stupid it can get. I mean Jesus you can easily take Wu Fei out of the show and really only one thing changes and honestly that change would for the better as now maybe one of the more charismatic characters in the show wouldn't die so stupidly.  Endless Waltz is about how the earth was invaded and taken over because they  literally had no army. Great animation and mech designs can't stop a movie that gets terrible with each repeated viewing.

I mean really Endless Waltz is pretty awful. Frozen Teardrop and Glory of Losers are almost parody.

O8th MS Team would have been better, but the 2nd half is kind of weak. The last episode also sucks.

I would say something bad about Seed, but I like that show unfortunately.

Char's Counter Attack has Quess who almost brings that movie down.

Add in the fact that Seed Destiny is awful. 00 shits the bed and AGE is best left un-noticed and you have a series that hasn't had a good television show in years and I can't really see as ever consistent.

The best thing right now in Gundam is The Origin. Unicorn is ok, but it's not like its some amazing thing. It still in the end has that awkward version of Gundam character development which is really "i guess I feel this way so I care for you because I felt something".  Honestly, Gundam is looking like the more inconsistent franchisee here.

Bad-ZZ, Victory, 0083, F91, Wing, EW, Seed Destiny, 00(Season 1 may have been great, but everything else trashed that idea), AGE.

I guess there are more good shows then bad ones, but it sure dosen't seem like it, especially not recently.
And a lot of Gundam takes it self serious. Which is unlike most Macross. I'm not sure how Macross 7 is mediocre when it realizes how dumb Macross is and goes full force. The main character rocks out alien enemies and there are Government sponsored music bands made to fight space aliens. It's so ludicrous it's fun. Macross F the tv show was bad, but one character does not make the show uguu and either way the movies made up for it. Besides, I'd take that over Gundam AGE or whatever the hell the 00 movie was. Yep, all these interesting plot lines where headed to talking to metallic aliens and space flowers. Yeah, I'm happy I invested time into this show.

The only really bad Macross is Zero. Yet in a world where 0083 is apparently good(only because of the art and animation) I'm not sure what makes Zero so terrible. Bird people and an unfullfilling ending sure, but man that first episode.

Gamecube had some highs. Double Dash was super fun, especially since I had three brothers to play with. Obviously Smash Brothers was dope. We had a lot of fun playing X-Men Legends too.

and of course RE4 and Windwaker. It felt bad seeing my friends play shit I couldn't but I had fun.

I think AniHawk said it best when he compared the Prime games to 3D Zelda games, as the formulas are almost identical. theme dungeons, an item upgrade per dungeon, pattern-based bosses, and as Esch points out, they even threw the dark/light world into 2 just to really beat it into your head that these really are just Zelda games with Metroid dressing.
