We'll see what happens but it doesn't really fit a fantasy setting. It looks straight out of a sci fi show.

Not a bad episode. I guess they've written Willas and Garlan out of the show, if Loras is heir; not complaining, just pointing it out.

Lots of Arya tonight which was great. I loved...every scene she was in. Williams hasn't had much to do this season but she really knocked this episode out the park. With respect to the Beric stuff...the fight was all over the place in terms of the way it was shot but overall it was a nice duel. I still think the show has dropped the ball on Beric. A few mentions of him in S2 and earlier this season would have worked wonders, not just to build up a mythic feel to him but to introduce the concept of him dying multiple times. In the book you hear about him dying, then 100 pages later you hear whispers that he's alive only to die again, etc. I'd imagine the revive might have been jarring to new viewers.

The bathtub scene was truly amazing. Still don't like what they did with his character last season (killing his cousin), but overall this season has been the coming out moment for the character, as it was in the book.

Finally some Jon developments. I'm guessing we're not going to get a jovial Tormund, ever. Seems like they've combined him with Magnar, which I guess makes sense.

Dany barely had any screen time this episode, again. I guess the second half of this season will be Dany heavy

Haven't seen this episode yet, but were Varys' reasons for keeping Sansa away from Littlefinger the same in the book? (he's the most dangerous man in Westeros)

I liked that scene and don't remember something similar from the books

None of that happens in the book, although he does meet with the Queen of Thorns shortly after she arrives in the city (we don't see it of course); he tells her that Sansa likes lemon cakes, and I wouldn't be surprised if he did sow the seeds of the marriage idea. It's a cool addition to the show IMO.

While Varys does concern troll about Littlefinger in the books, I never for the impression that he's truly concerned about him or the game he's playing.

Yup, Dance has some of the best scenes in the series - from his introduction (that was a real stag btw), the scene where he made Tyrion the Hand, his confrontations with Arya, the Tyrion scene this season...etc.

How much I like an episode depends on the which plotline it's following.  All of King's Landing, Arya, Dany, and Jamie's are amazing.  Jon's is picking up.  Not too interested in Robb's or Stannis'.  Bran's and Theon's are moving slowly and seem inconsequential at this point.

Yup, Dance has some of the best scenes in the series - from his introduction (that was a real stag btw), the scene where he made Tyrion the Hand, his confrontations with Arya, the Tyrion scene this season...etc.

yeah, the scenes with Arya might be my favorite in the series.  Both are up there as my favorite characters.

I hope Robb's story gets better.  I mean he's at war and his story feels like an afterthought.  Also the show hasn't done anything in three seasons to establish Stannis as worthy of any attention, but there he is.

I definitely feel like Stannis' story has suffered a lot in all three seasons. He's not in S1 or the first book, but is mentioned a lot and established quite early; he helped Jon Arryn investigate Robert's bastards and find the lineage book. He does some badass stuff in S2 of course, but thus far he has been an afterthought in S3; one could argue he doesn't do much early in the third book, but still some character development would work wonders. I'd probably rather see that (or more Jon) than the Theon stuff.

Robb...bah. I was quite excited when I heard they would be showing his exploits on screen...but thus far it has been pretty bad.

Obligatory pause...but did anyone else kind of think it was a bit unfair to have Ygritte full blown nude and not show any of Jon too? The show really could use a balance in terms of male nudity, given how many boobs every other episode has. I briefly read some twitter comments last night and while some female fans were satisfied by the oral sex, others were a bit butthurt about not seeing him naked.

They did get Jaime's ass/balls though, and that gay spy dude.

I totally get that, but they haven't really tried expanding his character beyond that.  The Lannisters are mostly unlikeable cunts, but at least they're interesting.  Stannis seems to exist to keep part of the plot moving.

Everybody gets good jokes about Renly and Loras though.

Also I've been reading the first book and I like how the show handled Tywin's introduction much better.  In the book there's no doubt what kind of man he is but in the show you're left guessing.  I suspected him to be a bit of a dandy before they showed him butchering an elk.

Stannis is SUPPOSED to be unlikable, though.

Unlikable and Spergtard with a family of freaks are two different things, not to mention that they are making him plain evil here, he has showed no remorse for what he did to Renly but instead has asked for more killing shadows, and his last scene with Mel was fucking pathetic.

And he wants his most trusted man to rot in a dungeon ::)

Yeah, you're wrong Diunx. He sends Davos to the dungeons. Also, he does regret doing that to Renly at the end of season 2 especially since he was unable to capture King's Landing. To Stannis, Renly was a sacrifice for justice. Which falls in line with Stannis' characterization in the books. Don't whitewash Stannis' atrocities either. He does plenty of "evil" or questionable things. Just like all the other kings. I really disagree with your description of Stannis being characterized as evil, as well. I hate that word in general when discussing ASOIAF but especially for grey characters like Stannis. I think last night's episode did its best in trying to portray Stannis as an actual person and was more in line with his book personality: hard, but caring; just, even towards himself.

We don't see anything from Stannis' perspective in the book. It is all from Davos' perspective. So we can't say what happened off screen. I think you're being overly pedantic in your tv show criticisms. I'm with you on a lot of stuff, but this seems like grasping at straws. Then again, Stannis is your favorite character, right? Jon is mine, and I thought the scene last night was rushed and not deserved due to the lack development towards it like it was in the book, but it was still beautiful and great to the point where I'm pretty satisfied as a Jon fan. You have to make some concessions, Diunx.

My problem is that all these distinguished mentally-challenged changes they have been making to Stannis's storyline have nothing to do with the runtime of the show of the budget is just shitty writing.

And Davos is the only person that Stannis listens to besides Mel so him letting him die is a big deal and an unecessary change in Stannis's personality imo.

Following the previous week’s dragon-unleashing stunner episode, HBO’s Game of Thrones climbed in the ratings Sunday night for the fifth episode of the season.

Thrones delivered 5.3 million viewers for its first airing at 9 p.m. That’s up 8 percent from the previous week, which was also a record high, and had built on a previous record high this season.

There’s some significance to hitting this number. Last year’s True Blood premiered to 5.2 million viewers. Could Game of Thrones overthrow True Blood to become the network’s most-watched series this year? (Yes, they’re on the same network, so it’s all gravy for HBO, but it’s still fun to pit these two shows with heavy online fandoms against each other and see which comes out on top).

It shows that they're setting up her final "You know nothing, Jon Snow..." line, which for me is the most heartbreaking moment of the series. As good as Season 3 is, the final half of Season 4 has a chance to be the most incredible television since The Shield Season 7.

just steamrolled episodes 2~5. Team Targaryen is too sick.

While there were several story lines I didn't like in the previous season and was straight up bothered when they were given screen-time I've been enjoying everything so far this season. Jeoffrey has been getting less screen-time and the time he is given is mitigated by the cat faced girl who is quite enjoyable.

Sansa remains annoying tho~
