My problem is that all these distinguished mentally-challenged changes they have been making to Stannis's storyline have nothing to do with the runtime of the show of the budget is just shitty writing.

And Davos is the only person that Stannis listens to besides Mel so him letting him die is a big deal and an unecessary change in Stannis's personality imo.

I figure we don't know yet what is going to happen with Stannis. Maybe he's just trying to let onion-knight stew a little.

Exactly. Dunno why Diunx is acting like this is some major change. You don't have to read the books to realize what's going on, it's pretty much a TV/movie trope

Triumph: They're replacing Edric Storm with Gendry, which makes sense.

Gotta say I'm baffled at the Ros stuff. Glad she's dead obviously, but given how long they dragged her story on I figured the payoff would be bigger. I thought

She was going to go to the Eyrie with Littlefinger, replace the role of Marlillion and be blamed for Lysa's death.

Ah, yeah that makes sense.  Also, maybe it's because the actor playing him is pretty good, but there seems to be a much better set up for Littlefinger's story on the show.

Yup I like the actor who plays Gendry, plus from what I've seen online he's quite popular among female fans. Introducing a new character/actor would be overkill IMO, when you can just use someone viewers are familiar with.

However the thing I'm wondering about:
(ASOS, AFFC)
spoiler (click to show/hide)
This means Davos will save Gendry, and after that...what does Gendry do? In AFFC he's still a member of the Brotherhood and saves Brienne. So I'm guessing Davos will sail Gendry back to mainland Westeros, at which point he'll wander around...I guess. Or perhaps they could have him join Brienne's search party in the AFFC season. She had a pretty shitty POV, but having Gendry and sexual tyrannosaurus Podrick Payne as companions could be interesting.

lol at Tywin Calling Cersei the most beautiful woman in the kingdom :rofl :rofl, Lena looks like a dead junky cheeseburger on this show.

I thought the scene was largely the same point that Littlefinger made with his "chaos is a ladder" comment. The world is built on various lies, from Aegon's 1000 swords to the incest origin of King Joffery, and naturally the idea that the queen is the most beautiful woman in the world. Obviously book Cersei is different from show Cersei, and Tywin's comment worked in that light.

Fourth book is great. Just slow and boring halfway but once you get to a certain point :bow It will adapt WAY better to the screen than in books. More than that half of DWD takes place during Feast so they'll splice DWD into Feast season. It is possible to read Feast and Dance interchangeably at the same time. The seasons will likely do just that.

The finale will be

ASOS spoilers and minor AFFC spoiler
spoiler (click to show/hide)
Dany capturing Yunkai and marching for Mereen, Jon returning to the Wall (Queenscrown is in ep9), Bran and company entering the Nightfort/perhaps meeting Sam, and Davos reading Mormont's letter.

Next season will be the Purple Wedding, Tyrion's trial/escape, Dany conquering Mereen, the battle at Castle Black, Coldhands, Sansa arriving at the Eyrie/Lysa Arryn murder, etc. It will also add some AFFC material, which IMO will translate well. So far the show has done a great job with all the King's Landing scenes, which bodes well for the Cersei v Margery stuff in Feast.

Next season should be even better.

I agree that the book will be better adapted to the show, as the show-runners have shown a good skill at making the political maneuvering in KL really good.  Doesn't change the fact that judged on it's own merits, the 4th book is probably the worst of the lot.

Worse yes, but I agree with Zeph that it is the best written of the series. However there is a lot of material that I don't think television viewers will find interesting, such as the monologue about war and honor. It also features characters that I can't imagine viewers giving a shit about, to put it lightly. However....

This season will end with

ASOS

spoiler (click to show/hide)
Arya/Nymeria pulling Catelyn out of the river. Catelyn will not be revived until the end of next season as one of the best things about Storm is that you end up thinking the Lannister's have won...until the Purple Wedding and Tywin being murdered. If you revive Catelyn this season it gives the audience hope. The audience should not HAVE hope.

Quote
Like a pack of wildlings scaling the Wall, the Game of Thrones ratings continue to go up. This week the initial audience hit a series-record 5.5 million, according to TVByTheNumbers. This included a 2.9 rating, also a series high. This puts Thrones only 30k viewers behind True Blood‘s all-time high number of 5.53 million.

The 11 PM repeat added 1.27 million viewers for a total of 6.77 million on the night, which tops the 6.68 million that watched on premiere night. Even more impressive, the season 3 premiere total was accumulated over three separate airings and this new record was set with only two.

Pretty amazing, although I do wonder how many of those viewers were thinking "uh where's Dany"

How is it that Tywin can bitch-slap his own children so much (forced incest, forced marriage, screwing over Tyrion constantly) but has never said a stern word to Joffrey? I have a hard time believing he could actually be afraid of him considering he's bankrolling his armies. Maybe he's trying to keep him on his good side so he can be impressionable? It would be unsurprising that this causes the Lannisters to be the only family completely wiped out after the war.

And how does he expect any babies to be made with big mama Tyrell's grandkids considering the match-ups.

There have been gay European lords, kings, etc who managed to get women pregnant/have heirs. I think the assumption is that Loras can at least have sex with his wife once every year or two.
