Shoe bore
« on: April 08, 2013, 06:49:03 PM »
So, my last decent pair of non-sneakers shit it this past weekend.  I need to get a new pair of decent looking shoes that can be worn when I need to not look like a hobo.  Problem is, my feet are really wide but not long- I'm about a size 11.  And, I pretty much am only able to wear New Balance sneakers without getting blisters.

So, to be a total asshole about things, does anyone know a decent shoe to get that comes in wide sizes and is comfortable?  Black obviously.

I have one pair of 2-year old sneakers and a pair of dress shoes.

I'm an embarrassment I know.

Black obviously? What exactly are you looking for? A black leather shoe? How casual? How dressy? Boot, shoe, what? How wide are we talking? EE? EEE?

Black, like my men.

Does not have to be leather.  Comfort and affordability matter more than style.  Nice enough to be worn in a semi-formal setting.  Shoe, no boots preferably.  EE.

Let me pre-emptively say that I'm sure you could suggest all sorts of awesome stuff, but my overriding concern is comfort and affordability.  Style is a distant, distant third.

If you're looking for casual sneakers, hobodom is rarely far behind. Simple, my recently passed but still favorite shoe-maker is... (googles) still dead, and only go-aheads/thongs are available through Zappos.com and Shoes.com.

Shit.

I have wide feet as well, and quite a bit of trouble finding shoes which fit well. Simples always fit well. New Balance also fit me well, but are seriously dry in the design department.

You might look at Rockport for serviceable, comfortable, partway dress-up shoes. I've had a pair for 20 years, and they're the only dress shoes in which I'm comfortable.

No no, I have nice sneakers.  A couple pairs.  I need shoes that I could wear to like, a nice restaurant or a shitty wedding.  If that makes sense.

I am looking at boots to go with some vintage denim-type gear...will probably have to buy online 'cause Japan ain't about that big feet life

Any suggestions? I like the look of Redwing Engineers, although they seem to be very wide and my feet are narrow

But it's a 'third party seller' with zero feedback. So yeah... I do know Red Wing is kinda hot in some circles of Japan, so maybe there is a store not too far from you that can import your size/model?

What's wrong with Timberland?  I haven't bought their products in a long time but I remembered that their boots were comfortable and durable.  For $80-130, Timberland's build quality is as good as anyone's.

But timberlands sell really well, it's one of the few Nike or Jordan shoes that can crack the top 10 in sales

Redwing is fine but if I were already in that price range ,I'd probably spent $100 more to get something even nicer

I was just offering a cheaper alternative to the two boots that I showed first since Creepy didn't want to spend that much

SMOOTH YOU HAVE TERRIBLE TASTE IN SHOES YOU ARE DOING NO ONE A SERVICE

spoiler (click to show/hide)
The first black boot you posted is not bad, I don't know anything about the brand though.
[close]

boots are Rag and Bone

Terrible taste based on my sneakers purchases or stuff I posted here?  The stuff I posted aren't stuff I'd buy, just reasonable choices for Creepy.  Options are really limited at around $100

Honestly, I don't see how your tastes are so amazing.  You can pretty much go into anywhere and cop a pair of the run of the mill stuff you're recommending.   You might as well tell Creppy to go put down $150 at Macy's and ask the salesman to pick a pair of black shoes for him.

Actually understated is just overrated in fashion.  It's why hypebeasts pay for plain tshirts with nothing but a logo.  How much talent does it take to design something like that?  "Clean look"?  More like plain look.

I got plenty of black/brown leather shoes for my suits, nice ones even but I don't see the point of talking about them.  Those aren't "fun" shoes, they're just for business or formal events.  It doesn't take much taste to pick out a pair of formal leather shoes.  Most of the time, you're just paying more for better materials and build quality.

I haven't really paid attention to style for the most part in my personal life, but that's because I've been a fatty forever.  As I've gradually lost weight, I've started to become a bit more self aware and have decided that "slovenly hobo" isn't really an image I wish to project any longer.

That said, I prefer general looks that feel comfortable to prestigious brands and shit.  And yeah, understated is generally my preference.

Besides, everyone knows that socks are where you get stylish.

Actually sneakerheads have been very hyped up lately about socks.  Since it's no longer possible to camp out for the hottest sneakers, people have been camping out for limited edition Nike Elite socks.  Some of those socks go for near $100 a pair on ebay.

That's cool.  Almost all the sneakers I post in WDYB are for playing basketball as much as for collecting.  I just like feeling how different shoes perform on the court even if some of the designs are a little out there.

brown is generally more versatile. black is generally more 'proper', so if you want something casual, get dark brown.
