I say roly poly :( I never heard of "potato bugs" before this site. Are they called that because they infest potatoes or look like potatoes?

It really is.

And it's not pronounced tennis, as in the sport either, but tenny's.

hey if it's called pop, why is there no such thing as a pop jerk who serves you from the pop fountain at the pop shop

riddle me that

Have you ever had pop-pop in the attic?

I used to hear tennies for shoes here, but that's faded away and most everyone says sneakers or sneaks now.

actually, I take that back. I will ask for a pop if I'm being served by a middle-aged soda jerk at a Walgreens soda fountain offering "real chock'lit malteds"

 ???

(Image removed from quote.)

That's not what he's talking about it.

That's it. Never seen one in a Walgreen's.

Rolly polly makes a helluva lot more sense than "potato bug". Someone please explain "potato bug"?

I always wondered why they're called Potato Bugs as a kid, but since everyone called them that, I didn't really care.

Potato bug may refer to:
Armadillidium vulgare, a species of woodlice commonly called "potato bug", "pill bug" "roly poly" "doodlebug" or "sowbugs".

According to this, three times as many Americans say "roly poly" than "potato bug," even "pill bug" outranks "potato bug":

Whatsit.

I've been using Pandora lately and there's a commercial for some brand of turkey breast (something about it not being glued together from parts and not having seaweed extract in it), I forget the name. The person that reads the ad pronounces it "tuh-ckey" and it winds me up every time I hear it.

I agree, but by this logic sneakers makes worse sense than tennis shoes by implying you use them for sneaking. At least tennis implies some sort of athletic activity is going on while wearing them.
