Was'nt it confirmed already?

Hell I would'nt be surprised, PC versions of Japanese console games seem to be the rage now.

This is what I thought MGS3 would be back when Kojima made some wild promises.

Xbox One announcement is great, too.  At least there is a next gen version that exists.  But I'd prefer to play it on PC.

Looks awesome, sounds awesome, but will moments of awesome be punctuated by something as awful as Drebin again? Time will tell. The time its set gives me some hope. The PSP games and / MGS3 are the best aside from the original.

I hope they do MGO again too.

Oh.  :kobeyuck

But yeah, that trailer looked hot. I wonder if the real-time will be fast-foward or "real" real-time. Still, if they do half the things they promised in that trailer it'll be hot for the stealth genre.  :noah

I'm stoked for this game, don't get me wrong, but Kojima has been promising an open-world stealth-gaming utopia for years now and has never delivered. I get the feeling this will feature the same, larger, hub-style levels with clear critical paths that MGS4 had.

I hope they do MGO again too.
I hope so too! I would become nonexistent to the outside world.

Doesn't look much like an MGS game, but it looks pretty cool.

I get the feeling Kojima wanted to do an open world RDR kind of game, but Konami forced Snake into it because money.

It's not even just that. I get vibes that Kojima is actually doing something he wants. Tackling subjects like child soldiers and slavery. Maybe not outside of normal MGS stuff, but it doesn't seem like it will be thaqt shackled with dealing with MGS canon like 4 was.

And then there's the open world stuff. It seems like he's actually trying and succeeding with mixing up the MGS gameplay.

But oh, there was no passion in it so I guess the game sucks.

Well, obviously. At this point Kojima is trapped to do Metal Gear titles until he dies. Wasn't ZoE3 canceled or shelved for a bit? But yeah, Metal Gear is the only "money maker" Konami has so that's why. Castlevania has been on decline and there's nothing else really "strong" for them in regards to AAA console space.

Nah, the man knows his fate is tied to Metal Gear. He's just taking it to Afghanistan because he watched and inhaled Rambo 3 like any other action movie from that era.

Nah, I don't quite believe that after MGS4.

I mean yes, he was in fact doing what he wants, but I mean you had a game were he was trying to appease fans by solving every little detail and reusing plot points that got good reception before. It was a game who's story was made to answer fans desires and put in every little MGS thing possible.

Something like MGS2 sure wasn't.

Play MGS2 again. It's absolutely nothing but MGS1 fanservice out the wazoo. In fact, play it again and imagine that you've never played MGS before, and see how imperceptible it is. The entire goddamn game is metacommentary about MGS1. I know it's more digestible to think that Kojima's hand was forced to make his games nauseating to people who actually enjoy good storytelling, but it turns out Kojima just sucks at telling stories.

Doesn't make his games any less fun, though.

I played MGS2 yesterday and your point is kind of true. Also MGS2 was the first MGS I played, hence it's my favorite.

The point is it is MGS1 again, that's part of the plot and thats cool. But that doesn't change the fact that the game doesn't play it safe and at time's refuses to give the player what it wants. MGS fanserivce isn't the problem, no they all have that and that's part of the series charms.

MGS4 on the other hand is not simple "hehe references and being meta". It's problem is that it tries to answer everything with the sole purpose of appeasing fans. Previous MGS games weren't exactly interested in that. People have powers, eh whatever. Strange stuff does not need a logical answer. But 4's main story reason to exist as said by Kojima was to answer all those questions people wanted answer.

Maybe. I haven't followed. If that's the case maybe they can make it good.

(So tired of headshot hacks. No, I don't need it to be another T/FPS just fix the mechanics)

MGS4's problem was it's supposed to be the "last" the Solid Snake saga so it was going to answer everything Kojima left hanging in the other games. The other 3 (okay 4-6 titles) didn't have that problem because they could leave things hanging and hook those things into other titles with a wink and a nod. MGS4 didn't have that.

If we could turn back time and have Kojima retcon the MGS3 characters are the patriots and leave that hanging with a few other things to lead into 5 and still leave the Patriots "they've been dead for years" mystery alive, I don't think 4's story would've been that bad.

I don't think MGS4 was utterly focused on providing all the answers though. Just like previous MGS games, it had its own insane plot running parallel to the bits of fan-service and exposition regarding things that were in other games.

I'm not going to argue that MGS4 was flawless, but your original point was that Kojima might not have been in full creative control of the series at some point, and I'm saying that it's quite the contrary.

I'm just hoping that MGS4 fixed up the MGS plot enough that he can actually move forward with it.
If you actually meant MGS4, I think it did.

Maybe he'll tie it all together from the other end now.

Maybe he'll tie it all together from the other end now.

It'd be quite cool if he was building up to Metal Gear 1/2 remakes. I hope he doesn't make absolutely mad familial connections to everyone from Big Boss' timeline to those in Snakes. Couple of characters in that trailer (Emmerich, the sniper etc) make me think he could. Ocelot is in some strange nether world between crew cut badass and rootin tootin moustachioed revolver spinning badass. Without the face hair, the mullet looks... awful. Game must be set in Ocelot's personal 1980s. edit: Actually it makes him look like a slick-back English villain. It would look worse if he was balding too. So maybe its not so bad.

I think it's Emmerich, in order to fulfill Solid's dying will (to be explained in MGS6), has undergone genetic and psychological modification to become Ocelot, all the while the child soldiers who form a network of human-AI's controlled by Vamp's and Naomi's love child which is actually a mix of nanomachine's and mutated fox die is using the child soldiers to create a new Outer Heaven and a new Metal Gear.

looks good but im still skeptical. the open world looks nice, but mgs is always best when youre working your way thru a tightly-designed puzzle. and if the ai and sneaking and general gameplay is still really close to what the older games were then ehhhhhh. the story scenes look stupid as ever; hopefully the open world design means much longer segments of actual gameplay.

Nah, MGS3 was basically an open-world game with load screens between areas and that was the best gameplay in the series.  MGS is at its best when it gives you an area to get through/get around and you make up your own way to do it.

The only thing I didn't like in the trailer was how he has this Lara Croft style arms flailing jump when leaping to a ledge and it looks kind of silly for a character like Big Boss.

"I'm sure you're worried about if the cutscenes are as long as Metal Gear Solid 4," Kojima said during an E3 roundtable. "Since this time around we're using an open world environment," Metal Gear Solid V will have "less cutscenes [than before]." Because you'll be exploring, you'll have fewer opportunities to run into a cutscene that takes control away.
