wow I had missed the Mario footage.  I can't believe they're copying the bland aesthetic of the New Super Mario Bros. titles for a 3D Mario.  It looks like an outsourced budget title next to Galaxy 1 and 2. :lol

The difference is that it would take them 3 years to get a new proper mario out where 2d world probably took a year.

Wait, so what's their Holiday 2013 title? I'm at work.
Pikmin, DK, and Zelda WW (october), and Mario world 3d

Pikmin is "holiday"? :lol :what

Really excited for DKC2. Those camera angles got me rock hard. :bow2 Trixie finished the job. :aah

Mario 3D is... well I'm glad it's coming out so soon. Get it out of the way so EAD Tokyo can do SMG3.

Nah, this is copying the 3D Land aesthetic which is somewhere in between but closer to Galaxy I feel. If you think it looks like an NSMB game you're on crack.

Still kinda bland though. Eh.

the new smash was so disappointing, the brawl reveal was a fucking event that showed a bajillion of new character's and stage, this was a fart in the wind by comparison... "here are the same old stage with the same old character oh and the guy from animal crossing :derp" and it's neat they added megaman but it's also sort of expected so it really doesn't have the same weight of back when they announced snake

the end of the video said they were opening a smash bros site again,i really loved the shit out of dojo so i checked the old page and it still didn't have anything new on it,what's up with that?

EDIT: ooooooooooohhhhh the japanese site is updated! it's full of cool artwork :gladbron

Not scary enough for an E3 price drop, apparently.  I balked at the Wii U's high price as much as I balked about its current dearth of games... and now, knowing the power and pricepoint of the PS4, instead of balking, I'm just stunned.

My guess is they just weren't expecting it to the point of not making plans.  They will lose there holiday sales if they don't drop the price by October.

Mario Kart 8's gimmick looks fun, though.

Have you played Sonic Racing Transformed?  Basically the same thing, barring the gravity thing.

The gravity thing is the new gimmick.  The transforming cars were in 7, which is where SEGA nicked the idea from.

Terrible, terrible showing.  Everything was just going through the motions and they've got fuck all ready this year.

Ah, I stand corrected.

Still love Sonic Transformed though.

The title "3D World" doesn't even make sense considering it originally referred to the 3DS's 3D effect, which the Wii U is incapable of.

I'll get WW HD. Even if the small tweaks don't add up to much it's been a long long time since I played WW. Honestly native 16:9 makes more of a difference to me than 1080p, but that's a nice bonus too.

Nintendo's strategy: remake all those 3DS games people liked. But somehow take forever on it.

This is what alarms me the most. This seems like all filler no killer...

NSMB U was fun while it lasted, and more fun than it looks actually, but I think it failed to ignite excitement because it looked so similar to NSMB2 and NSMB Wii.

Now we've got...

Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze... looking like the recent Donkey Kong Country Returns / 3D

Wii Party U... looking like Wii Party

Super Mario 3D World... looking like Super Mario 3D Land

Mario Kart 8... looking exactly like Mario Kart 7 + Mario Kart Wii

Wind Waker HD looking unsurprisingly a lot like Wind Waker, with no news of the enhancements to gameplay outside of message bottles

X looks great, but that too looks a bit like Xenoblade with Gundam Wings.

What I've no doubt about is that a lot of these games will be fun... DKCR was one of the best games last gen, and a multiplayer SM3D Land style game will be amazing. I'll pour hours into Art Academy, so I was happy to hear that's coming soon in some form. Will I be able to play online with anyone I know, in games like Mario Kart 8, if Nintendo fail to get people excited about the system? I think not.

No price drop announcement really has my mind melting. I know E3 has just started, but Nintendo and their marketing team seem blissfully unaware of how terrible they are doing.

If i had to express disappointment, the awesomer looking stuff ain't coming out until unspecific times in 2014.  That being said the stuff that has a probably chance of selling wiinoun/mario/donkeykong will be hitting this holiday, so maybe sales will improve.

adjusting to improve the 'tempo' of the game sounds like they'll be tweaking the sailing or triforce quest parts to me. 1080p is nice, and I'm definitely buying it, but I dunno what the ROI will be like on this one.

I think Mario 3D World will be to Mario 3D Land what NSMBU was to NSMB2.

Mario Kart and Smash were needed yesterday, not 2014.

There were just about no big Wii games in the last 2 years. WTF has Nintendo's console division been working on?

Wii U has been just terrible for a Nintendo console so far.

Seems like Wind Waker might support off-TV play.  Second screen has items and map on it.

Bayonetta 2 does have off-TV play.  In fact, I think mirroring the game is the only use of the tablet.

Super Mario 3D World has off-TV play.

Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze has off-TV play.

You can turn it sideways and play like 10 minigames with two people on one pad. That's worth $100 per console, right?

Quote from: gaf
This is a massive disappointment. There’s almost nothing left of the freedom and precision controls introduced so perfectly in Mario 64. Now it’s an essentially 2d, slow playing, unimaginative, lazy mess, with horrible graphics and offensive music. If this is what they came up with, why wasn’t this ready last year? It’s like they put zero effort into what was once their flagship franchise.

I’m just baffled that Nintendo thinks they need to dumb down the 3D Mario series, or shoehorn in a worthless, carbon-copy multiplayer mode lifted straight out of New Super Mario Bros. There’s none of the imagination so brilliantly on display in the two Galaxy games here. Awful

Nailed it.

Oh my god, the bolded parts I agree with 100%

Thoughts:

- Super Mario 3D World looks fucking terrible. While I haven't played 3D Land I don't remember it looking like that during the trailers. Most underwhelming looking 3D Mario ever. Even the supposedly superior graphics can't hold a candle to how great the Galaxy games look. The gameplay looks bland and lame, something I never thought I'd say about a Mario game. It's almost obvious that they hastily put this together to have something for the holidays.

- Mario Kart 8 looks sick. I haven't given a shit about the series in a while but it's nice to see a good looking Mario Kart after the ugly and terrible Mario Kart Wii.

- Wii Party U and Wii Fit U are not registering in anyone's mind at all I bet.

- Drawing? meh.

- Wind Waker is EXACTLY THE SAME GAME. What is even funnier is the fact that IT LOOKS EXACTLY THE SAME TOO JUST SLIGHTLY WORSE DUE TO AWFULLY USED EFFECTS. Who the fuck is going to buy this shit?

- W101 and Bayonetta 2 looked amazing. I thought X looked great too. It really sucks that they are on a console I don't want at all.

- Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze looks great but man I'm getting "This series is going to be run into the ground soon" vibes from it. Sucks that Retro couldn't make something different. A waste of their talents.

- Super Smash Bros. looks exactly the same. Almost like there's no graphical upgrade even. This was easily the most boring Smash trailer of all time, the Brawl and Melee ones got you hyped like a motherfucker. This one is just like here's the same game but with a character who just joined the irrelevancy wagon. Gameplay looked slooooooow as hell too.

Man, Wii U is looking worse and worse each time.

Thanks for the recap i was at work but apparently i didnt miss a thing :)
