When I walked out of TDKR with considerably less satisfaction than I had after seeing The Avengers, I realized that I've begun to prefer the more light-hearted summer blockbuster movie. It makes for a more tonally consistent experience. Batman Begins had, for the most part, more grounded special effects and stunts to match its dour mood. The Dark Knight Rises was really laughable about this, having one scene where Bruce and Alfred cry at each other and then ending the movie with Batman

This kind of thing would not only be tolerable, but at home in a movie like The Avengers or Pacific Rim, where spectacular shit is popping off every minute. It doesn't make as much sense to have it in a movie that's trying to be emotionally gripping.

I just don't get how people play the "bad movie" card on Nolan's Batman flicks.  First of all, they're summer movies.  Second, they're super hero movies.  Accepting those two things, the bar is pretty fucking low, people.  In spite of that, they're pretty decent!  I'm sorry if you don't leave the theater with a warm fuzzy feeling and want to go play with puppies n shit, but I left 3 times having seen Batman be a badass, and that's all I really wanted to see.

I don't necessarily disagree with any of those statements, but I still enjoyed them for what they were.

For all their faults, with the way movies are made in America, I just don't see better Batman movies being made.  Movies we deserve, not that we need, blah blah blah.

Every Nolan Batman movie...hell, every Nolan movie period outside of Memento has poor editing.  Some shit just doesn't make sense sometimes, and they never address something that seems to garner more information due to how it was edited.  That scene in Wayne's penthouse in TDK is the biggest culprit I can think of.

Regardless, they're great superhero flicks, and great movies altogether despite pacing and editing problems.

I'm with you for the most part, Triumph. I didn't hate any of the Baleman movies, and I wouldn't call them bad; but I was really bored during most of TDKR. The scenes with Hardy though

TDKR admittedly has shitty pacing; it's a large part of why I rank it last despite having probably the best action sequences in the series.  And yeah, a large part of the plot is typical summer movie dumb shit (the stock market thing Oscar touched on earlier as the biggest example) but it does have a really good story arc.  It's just kind of like listening to a slightly drunk person tell that story.

Looking back, I think Batman Begins is the best of the Nolan trilogy, with the best pacing and villains.  I liked TDR but it dragged on for a bit at the end, and the TKDR was a pacing nightmare as you already said.  I liked the movie, but I don't think I'd ever want to re-watch it.

Don't care about The Man Of Steel.  The old Superman movies never did much for me and Superman Returns was garbage.  I don't need to see Superman's origin retold 800 times with different actors and Zod in Superman II was enough.

Yup. I watched Batman 89 and Returns a few years back.

89 sucks now. I have no clue why we thought that was a good movie back then. I was obsessed with that film when it came out and loved it very much. I liked Returns too.

after my rewatch, Returns kicks the absolute shit out of 89 in terms of pacing, villains, story, cinematography. Everything.

I thought Penguin  bought into and was used by Christopher Walken. It's only when CH left him and he was disgraced by Batman did he do his "kidnap the first born thing". He had been planning it though because earlier in the film he collected the information on who Gothom's first borns where. But at first I believe he was just trying to actually because Mayor for whatever nefarious reasons.

I just love Returns because of how batshit insane it is. You got horny  Penguin, Christopher Walken, stupid extreme feminist Catwoman who's insane, creepy Batman who kills someone, and that cool Burton look. It's just entertaining to me.

Man of Steel is doing pretty decent numbers worldwide, way better than the last Superman movie.

tbh, I like that it's a largely divisive movie.  stuff like green lantern and marvel's non-iron man movies are too dull to get a passionate response from either side.  plus, as someone who falls in the middle, I can only hope they listen to the criticism and do better next time.  In the words of Snyder, "c'mon, a thing about this thing would be a cooler thing if stuff and, you know, things were to happen with the thing."


also, Barry Allen Flash is going to be on the Arrow TV show and spin-off into a Flash TV show and might be linked with the movies.

Report: FRANK MILLER Meeting with Zack Snyder to Talk SUPERMAN vs BATMAN Movie

Turns out, writer/artist Frank Miller noticed. According to a report by The Independent, Miller "had no idea the announcement was going to happen." But now that he knows, "he's going to be meeting up with Zack in the next few days to go over the plans for the Superman film." Now, take it with a grain of salt as the quote comes from "a source close to Miller," but it does seem likely that Snyder, a self-professed longtime fan of Miller and of Superman in general, would go to someone who so deftly told the tale of these two heroes' greatest clash. Whether the possible consultation will take on any kind of official role, or will just amount to a single lunchtime conversation, remains to be seen. The two of course worked together before - Snyder wrote and directed the big screen adaptation of 300, another comic written and drawn by Miller.

Snyder can also look a little closer to his Man of Steel team for help - Jay Oliva, who provided storyboard art for the movie and helped Snyder block out some of its major action sequences, also directed The Dark Knight Returns part 1 & 2, the two-part animated adaptation of Miller's story that came to Blu-ray and DVD in 2012. Oliva also directed Justice League: The Flashpoint Paradox and the upcoming Justice League: War, in addition to storyboards for most of the modern DC Animated films featuring the two heroes.
