I assume if the games are already tied to your Amazon account you can get em on this for free? And that I can use the Humble Bundle app to sideload crap from that, etc.

If so, will consider when they offer it for like $50 plus $50 of store credit. Will decide no, but will consider. Promise.

Do you have to keep a piece of popcorn by the remote at all times?

~$140 for the console and controller seems a little steep for a device that plays tablet games with none of the utility of a tablet. Looks like a nice box tho.

I can't wait to play phone/tablet games on my TV! :hyper

Props to them for actually selling a controller, though.  I mean, I don't care about yet another one of these boxes, but at least they seem to be trying.

They should let you use the controller with a Kindle.

No, they're spending $75 million on a forklift operator simulator.

Amazon is bolstering up talent in their video game development studio, and they've got two new high-profile snags: Portal designer Kim Swift and Far Cry 2 designer Clint Hocking have both joined Amazon Game Studios, Kotaku has learned.

Also is this news to anyone else? I just found out that OUYA basically quit hardware. :lol http://www.theverge.com/2014/3/7/5478198/the-indie-game-console-may-already-be-dead

Ouya founder Julie Uhrman insists that the company isn't abandoning its original vision. "What makes Ouya is not the physical hardware, but the fact that it is made for games built for a TV," she says

Because the market that truly wants such things are already served by the existing tablet/smartphone market.

And the people that actually want to play games on a TV are already served by the existing console market.

Hey now, Dungeon Hunter isn't terrible. :goty2

Whats the point?

Trying to "paradigm shift" the console market since Tablet/phone gaming is the new shit.

Spoiler: Paradigm isn't going to shift until you have a "console experience" that drains said tablet/phone in an hour. I don't discount there's people playing on mobile (though I discount it being super-ultra popular enough to do this) but I don't think there's a market for something like this until game experiences match console/PC in regards to said tablet/phone/"console"  hybrid.

The only reason I bought this was for emulation. This thing is getting rooted asap and I'm going to install it into my retrocade. I should have mine in a few hours I'll let you guys know how I like it.

how far are televisions from just having this sort of stuff built-in? cus that's obviously where this is going. Not that people update their TVs all that often, so there's prolly some life left in selling these sorts of boxes still.

So, did anyone pick this up?

It clearly looks to be the best set top box in the market and the ability to play games is pretty cool. I would get one but the rumored game-ready Apple TV is right around the corner and I'm so invested in the iOS ecosystem that I have zero desire to repurchase content I already own.

It is snappy at most things, but it might be because everything looks like crap. Everything about this just doesn't feel right. I do have to say whatever they are doing in the background to load up all visible content and prefetch is awesome. I've not had to wait for a HD stream to get to HD it's always started right in HD. I didn't get to play any games on it, but that will happen later.

So far I prefer my Roku 3 for media. This is just my initial observation of the device, I've spent less than a hour with it today.

Gonna keep waiting to see what the other companies do in response to this.
