When I first got a drivers license in my teenage days and had no money at all, I ate a lot of fast food. Burgers, tacos, pizza; was down for it all. But the one item that grabbed me was the double decker taco at Taco Bell. I went through an entire school semester freshmen year of college where 3 days a week I'd drive through taco bell and get 2 double deckers and a mountain dew and eat it in my car in the parking lot and then head off to class. It was a great meal to wake up to and start the day.
Then I started being wiser and not poor and was like "fast food is gross" and stopped eating junk food for about a decade+
But recently, due to working more overtime and just being more busy in general socially, I've started hitting the fast foods when I'm hungry and want to eat quick and while most of the fast food these days tastes awful and I don't miss it at all...the double decker is still delicious.
In fact, even having had great meals at 5 star restaurants and enjoying lots of different types of great foods over the last 30 years, I really think the taste of a double decker taco is as delicious as anything I've ever had. In fact,
I think it may actually be my favorite food item in the world. There's just something about how it combines the deliciousness of a bean burrito with the deliciousness of a crunchy beef taco but makes them even BETTER that's amazing. The way the hard shell taco becomes just slightly a bit mushy from the moisture of the beans over time so the bite is this soft delicious bite it just perfection. And the beans + beef is such a damn good flavor. Plus flour tortilla is always delicious.
Now it's probably horrible for me, and so I'm certainly not going back to my days of two double deckers three times a week, but lately I'm getting one here and there and goddamn it is just that good. Probably the only low-quality (aka In-n-Out doesn't count here) fast food I really enjoy the taste of anymore.
