Is fast food getting better?
« on: March 03, 2014, 08:23:17 PM »
I'm sitting here waiting for a haircut eating Chipotle (cheh-poh-til) for the first time in years and I actually can sense a little spiciness and other flavors. $11 bucks for a meal but it's nearly worth it. Taco Bell is still mi amor numero uno but it seems like everything has been steadily getting better. I feel like it's both competition and maybe consumers becoming more picky lazy and therefore the market tries to compete for their moolahs.

this is why I like it. Its so damn consistent. Most fast food restaurants are very hit and miss with freshness. Even if McDonalds isn't the tastiest burger it is the most reliable. Oh and Dem fries. Oh lawd

Oh and chipotle is overpriced and bland. I can't understand why anyone would eat there. Maybe if they had a dollar menu

Why can't you people go to a real Mexican place and get real Tacos?

And McDonalds..... so meh.  Most inconsistent fast food place I find. Sometimes the fries are great. Sometimes they are crap thanks to not letting them get crispy. They've been meh since they switched to something healthier all those years ago.

There is a surprising lack of taco trucks in the town where I work. Lots of Mexicans Americans, but not a single taco truck that I've ever seen.

They're all over Seattle, though. El Camion's lingua tacos are killer.

Thats a shame.

There's plenty of hole in the wall type places around Chicago land. It's easy to find some great steak Tacos. I mean I like Taco Bell every once in a while, but it's no replacement.

BK is irrelevant. Hardee's/Carl'sJr./Jackinthebox does the disgusting ridiculous burgers better and McDonald's and Wendy's make better conventional items

I still maintain that between all the burger global mega chains, Hardee's probably has the best menu in terms of quality/price ratio. Though I'm mostly referring to their classic menu, never had any of the crazy shit Esch posted.

Hardee's mushroom and swiss burger and hot ham 'n' cheese sandwich are ace

The mushroom and swiss and curly fries used to be my go-to order.

I knew they were shit when I tasted their sour cream. Sour cream is like my favorite thing on a taco/burrito/etc, and even if a product is bad I can tell myself "oh well at least it has sour cream." But theirs doesn't taste like anything, yo.

There's a Netflix doc of them up called Inside: Chipotle and it sums up their path to success and growth as a chain. Shit is :shaq2 makes them seem like they're saving mother earth with burritos :comeon

Even Qdoba is better.
The founder, Steve Ellis, has this whole insane philosophy about the meaning of a restaurant towards society and culture and some bullshit about "doing business without being a business" it's like just give me some good burritos taco.

I never thought too highly of Chipotle, but every now and then I'll stop by and get a burrito bowl, all under the impression that Qdoba is worse. That all changed when I tried Qdoba last Saturday, it was simply better and cheaper.

In N Out is probably the only fast food chain that can offer a good tasting, relatively healthy meal at affordable prices

Chipotle is healthy but it's way too expensive and tastes pretty bleh

Gonna get two Famous Stars tomorrow for 3 bucks. Love coupons.

Carl's JR> Other major chains. Wendy's used to be good but I ate a burger there recently and it was pretty bad. Could've been the location?

Burger King was alright back in the day, when they had the XL's. Now they're soggy dogshit.

Well my point was more that a thousand calories isn't an indicator of an unhealthy meal.  Total calories throughout the day maybe.  But I can easily wolf down a thousand calories for one meal and still be healthy for the entire day.  But shit, let's get this out of here.

If I go to a fast food joint, I go all in. Multiple sandwiches, ALWAYS large fries, and whatever other sides I desire. I only do fast food as a rare treat, so when I do, I eat that garbage until I'm in actual, physical pain.

I only do that about once a week during cheat time.  If you think that's bad you should see what else I eat in the whole 8 hours.  At work my appetite is legendary.

I dont usually eat much there. I get two mcdoubles and a value fry :aah

I do think fast food is getting better.  A few years ago, they realized that there is a market for people who are willing to pay a little more money for better quality fast food.
