Is it likely that Germany was saving their strength for matches that would intimidate? Like they started in a hard group but went for a blowout in the first game and until yesterday, they had modest wins and a tie. Now whoever they face in the final has to be mentally prepared for the team that humiliated Brazil.

Goals are actually finite and Germany used up all this round's goals.

Penal is going to be like 3 dozen rounds cuz no one can score.

This sad Brazilian fan was shown crying. But no ones published this beautiful picture of him handing the trophy to a German fan. He was quoted as saying "Take it to the final! As you can see, it is not easy, but you deserve it, congratulations" (Roughly translated)

I don't think I have access to Argentinian beer in Seattle. Was hoping for a head to head during the final.

Argentinians are still bitter about this match

the goal keeper for Argentina collided with Klose and had to be carted off 15 or so minutes before the penalty shootout

Drink a Fernet and Coke—or they export lots and lots of wine

We've actually got some good Argentinian Malbecs, our friends are wine importers in that region, but I want beer. Even if Quilmes is absolute shit. Need it to go along with some Stiegl Radler. :rock

well that was boring. from 30 minutes it was clear that penalties were in the post and everything up until then was essentially a formality. i was at least looking forward to krul's hijinks but LVG had to fuck that one up too.

neither of tonight's teams deserve a sniff at a WC. if germany blow it they should be banned for the next twenty years for ruining narratives.

The team that mauled them in one of the most humiliating losses of all time

i'd guess that there's a certain humble reverence for germany in brazil right now, they exposed what fuck ups their NT was by playing some glorious football. if it was germany vs. brazil again tomorrow at the maracana, i'd expect deutschland uber alles to be booming around the whole stadium.

the problem argentina have is that Germany aren't a one player team - the sum of their parts is what makes them the force they are. It's not like the reverse situation where nullifying Messi is taking a huge chunk out of the team.

For Germany that midfield just has so many frigging options that ,yes, the only way i can see Argentina nullifying Germany is flooding the midfield and sitting deep and hoping to nick a goal and hold on. That for me is too dangerous a game to play - if Germany score early on Argentina are basically fked. They'll have to come at Germany and Germany will tear them to shreds.

Argentina won't be as terrible as Brazil, but i do see germany winning it by at least two clear goals.

Kinda happy that we won't have to play against the Netherlands in the final, even though I don't have a particular grudge against them. But Robben's counter attacking skills and Van Gaals tactical ideas felt like the biggest threat to germany.

Against Argentina, I think the chances are roughly 60:40 for Germany. Germany is obviously not invincible on defense, but I feel like Neuer and Hummels are doing a fantastic job at eliminating chances in the penalty box. On the offense, we have both the creativity of our midfielders and on set plays we have a clear size advantage because Argentina is playing with small attackers. Gonna be interesting if we will press as high up the pitch as we have done in the past matches. On the one hand, Argentina seems to prefer a slow build up anyway, so it shouldn't be that risky. But you never know with the kind of talent that the Gauchos have on offense. I imagine they could score a goal similar to a scene from a game yesterday, where they nearly scored (around the 75th minute, Higuain hit the outside of the net, was called offside although it wasn't offside). Argentina have been really strong on defense, although their players seem only average there, so we will see if that they can keep that up against the best offensive midfield of the tournament.

I guess it really depends who gets the first goal.

Obviously always important, but yeah, first goal probably will be crucial.

Essentially the same team is a bit much considering we have only 5 players still from 2006 and 11 from 2010 years ago. I assume there are quite a lot of other teams with comparable numbers. You're right that the team has grown very organically, without much drama or big 'generation changes'. Gonna be interesting if germandy finds the right time to fade out players like Lahm and Schweinsteiger. They will probably still good enough in two years, but who knows if they will be hungry enough. Like spain this year, who are also a team that remained together with relatively few changes in the years of their big success.

Speaking of Argentinian wines, I just had this one tonight and highly recommend it. It's maybe $11 at the liquor store and much better suited for July than a Malbec. It's a Torrentés, but tastes similar to New Zealand Sauvingon Blanc. Cheers!

Damn
But sometimes, you have a player like Messi who can make a team playing like a team look foolish in every possible way. Messi is that player, I fully believe he will finish his career as the greatest footballer to have ever lived, I already consider him as such. Even if the team has weak areas, they just have to do the very basics and let Messi drive.

Argenina(Messi) has this. Germany are being sent to a cold Russian winter on Sunday.
