my brother has long ass locks, gonna have his MBA soon and will continue stunting on cacs #BlackExcellence
:rejoice

The worst hair related thing to me is seeing black mothers who don't really teach their daughters how to take care of their hair. Natural hair is beautiful, there are so many popular examples of black women with great looking locks, curly fros, etc. I'm not saying black women shouldn't wear weaves; white women wear them too. But lord knows I cringe when I see black chicks with ridiculous blonde weaves

A lot of them may be straightened and dyed.

Natural hair is becoming as popular as straight hair. Lady hair care product aisles almost half and half now.

Nah. If you wait long enough you'll see them start patting it.  :-\

I hope you're right about natural hair making a come back, it's beautiful.

Texas? When I was there in 2011 most of my female cousins had natural hair. Whereas here in Michigan it's probably 60-40 weave over natural, if not more.

Natural hair is taking over period regardless of location. Mags and sites like essence have dedicated natural hair sections. There are natural salons (often rip offs), sites like curlynikki.com and naturallycurly.com have taken off, many modern black female cultural icons have natural hair.

There's natural hair now in NYC everywhere you look. It's great.

I didn't say that white people skin don't benefit from being pampered. But for the most part, it doesn't need to be pampered to look good or decent. Black skin tends to be much more soft and delicate. How many white people do you know that can't shave with a razor because if they do, they'll have look like a crater?

Wait, what is natural hair? Natural in contrast to what? Explain to this cac-demon.

most black women have their hair straightened. Hair straightening in general was very popular in the black community pre-civil rights movement (see: conking) among certain subsets of the black population. During black power movement, people started to embrace their natural, curly hair. Hence afros, jheri curls, and hair cuts like that. But post-70's though black men continued to this trend and didn't go back to straightening products, black women did. The natural movement is a movement to move away from hair straightening products, embracing ones true self, and natural kinky hair.

#YesAllMen take relaxing baths, obviously.

I remember when arvie said he took baths daily. Does he still do that?

No.  I haven't had the free time since highschool.  I'm pleased you remember my hygiene routine after all these years;  it was something special.

Is it actually a matter of increased dryness or just dry skin being more consicuous on darker skin?

All dead skin has that ashy look to it (because all skin is actually translucent) but it's hard to see on lighter skin for obvious reasons.

O nice, I miss all the bath talk because I didn't check the mass shooting thread for my favourite topic of conversation.  And the only thing I have to contribute to a moisturizer conversation is my desire to try beard oil.  Has anyone tried beard oil?  Did it sheen up your beard?

Mine's jet black and now that I think of it, I use the no-poo method to clean it, meaning it's always shiny and all around healthy looking. I could stand to get a beard brush though...

Can't we do both?

Real talk, there are a few students I work with that are eerily similar to the shooter in some behaviors and beliefs.

I find shampooing mine and conditioning it makes it straighter and more attractive.

Yeah, me too.  Very discomforting.  At least here, odds are if any snap, they'll just use a handsaw to attack a couple of low-rent pop idols.

These are kids in a self-contained behavior program who often have histories of violent behavior, sometimes sexual in nature. The lack of boundaries and respect for others is pretty jarring at times. But at the same time, they're a small (ie. 6 kids) portion of my case load in the two buildings I work in.

A counselor and I run a boys' social skills/friendship group at the middle school. We work on all kinds of things, but social justice, gender stereotypes and understanding is a big segment.

This blows my mind. How is this possible? I thought always thought black skin was super tough. I mean, you guys just laugh off sunburn.

Dark marks and discoloration are very common on black people. Certain chemicals will fuck your skin up. If you wash your face too hard, you can fuck your face up. That said, skin type ! skin color, which is more important.

I think I got sunburned once when I was 8, but I was out in 90 degree heat no clouds no shirt for a full day. It didn't hurt very much but it did feel sore.

Full day sunburn: Felt sore. :maf I had a field trip in elementary school where we were at the beach for 4 hours. My sunscreen apparently washed off, because I came home with 2nd degree burns across my neck, back, and shoulders, which escalated into yellow pus filled blisters the size of silver dollars.

Lol one day we went to the beach, I got there paler than milk and returned redder than a boiled lobster. Next three weeks were nothing but agony, painful showers, literally being unable to wear a shirt most of the time, insomnia, constant shivering, a huge bubble on my left shoulder, and reams of dead skin being peeled off.

Naturally, it was my dumbass self that only used a little sunscreen thinking I'd get a bitching tan.

The things with lotions and sunsceen and oils is that I hate how they feel on my skin. Feel unnatural to me I guess.

I like my skin like Himu likes her hair, I suppose.

I love the smell :heart

Also most women's lotions come with the stuff. Neutrogena facial moisturizer is SPF15 for example. So it's a two hit combo of lotion and SPF.

same here. i come from a long line of mediterranean greaseballs, so most of my body is oily 24/7. adding lotion/sunscreen anywhere except my few dry spots will have me walking around looking like slimer. no thanks

Also, I said it's pretty easy to accomplish.

Most if the good feminine facial moisturizers have SPF in them. Pretty sure most if your female friends do the same thing. All you to do is put it on your face like regular lotion. Easy.

You can get SPF body lotion as well.
