Today I went in to complete some final paperwork for my internship this summer. I had to provide a primary identification document, in this case my passport. I signed some forms, and the HR lady scanned my passport, and I went on my way. 20 minutes later, when I was most of the way home, I got a call from her telling me that there had been a photo mismatch with my passport, and that I needed to come back in.
Apparently when E-Verify ran my passport number, DHS records returned a photo of an Asian woman. Surely my privileged cac male name evokes the thought of an Asian woman, but this was a red flag that they couldn't wave off. I had to turn around and come back to the office and sign a form contesting the identity verification failure, and tomorrow I have to call DHS and have god knows what kind of conversation with them to get this resolved.
I can think of a few ways this happened. I spent a lot of time in Asia, and in a lot of countries they'll make you give them your passport to get a hotel room, rent a motorcycle, or even use an internet cafe. Someone might have done something shady with it on one of these occasions.
This is some real horseshit.
