I'm known to have pretty shitty luck with electronics, but usually a single replacement works fine. The most I went through were two 360 units, and had to send the third in for repair, but a friend owns that now and it still works today. That guy has probably just worked himself into a state of paranoia over it, and now any little flaw registers as a catastrophic electronics failure.
