Brothers also had no one complaining about the length because it was $15 and up front with what you were getting (Except the emotional dick punch at the end of the game). It's the same with the Telltale stuff. You can drop some cash on the first episode and if you are hooked, pay for the rest and it's worked out pretty well for them (Though I dropped the cash on The Walking Dead S2 and got bored after Chapter 2 because of the glacial pace. The Wolf Among Us was so much better). The Order is a $60 game that's five hours and no re-playability, no co-op, no multi, no NG+, Nowt. And people are defending it. Even Ryse had a basic horde mode. Or the GOATs of short games, Metal Gear Rising and Bayonetta 2 had tons of easter eggs and additional content to unlock by replaying it. Boss fights and enemy placements would change up depending on difficulty as well as it had some thought put into it. It's what makes the stanning for The Order so patently ridiculous. It's demonstrated it's a five hours one and done production and people want to defend it by using examples that had much more re-playability.

Also, Order ending spoilers again but :dead :dead :dead

No matter the length, brothers was shit. Molyneux levels of pathetic emotional moment attempts, and it wasn't fun to play either, and the art style was ugly as fuck, and they spoke fucking simmish. Why did I play through that thing. I could have spent that time watching efukt videos.

Oh my  :lol

I have nothing against The Order, but it has been delicious seeing the Sony Drones go out to bat for a game that didn't really need the attention other than being a Sony exclusive. Once again kudos to the Order astroturfing team on Gaf. Loudninja,DarkLordMalik,nib95. 100s of new Jr members, Stellar job lads.

The damage control currently being executed on Gaf is breathtaking, we even have mods who should be unbiased and above this doing 'cleanup' work in threads deleting dissenting opinions. I do wonder how many gaffers have already brought the digital version and are getting buyers remorse and can't just cancel their pre order now.

And to think we haven't even gotten to the reviews yet.

It's kind of hilarious that Angry Birds has more actual gameplay in it than The Order does. Yet those people that vehemently decry mobile gaming as the cancer of gaming will never acknowledge it.

Angry Birds has also been giving new levels and such for free for years!

Partisanship...

I don't play console games nor have I bought a short PC game. Honestly if you're constantly buying videogames for $60 you deserve an L, whether the game is 5 hours or 10+. Waste of money. If I'm going to buy a game at full price it's going to at least be a long term investment though. I put hundreds of hours into StarCraft (1 and 2), a hundred into D3 before throwing it in the bushes, etc; I didn't buy Skyrim at full price but it would have been worth it.

comparing any game's value to Skyrim is not fair.

they keep bringing up Wolfenstein, which was a semi-linear FPS ???

also, as a big Wolfenstein series fan,  that game was aiight, not some beckon for determining another game's value

So there's a new run on YT with a guy who's picking up all the collectibles he comes across and is checking out every corner of the map. Comparing his total runtime up to the same point in his most recent upload with the guy who skipped all the collectibles and didn't check every corner, he's only ahead by 25 minutes.

The previous excuse they held onto was that the 5 hour vid was him rushing through the game, and this guy is looking for collectibles and his playtime isn't much longer apparently.  This to be expected since this is a corridor shooter, but still  :lol at the excuses falling apart so quickly.

gaf impressions™ official op yesterday:

The Order 1886 is for lovers of old fashioned single player experiences. For those who want to see strong efforts in storytelling-focused games make a comeback. It's a highly curated museum piece for old-timey, story driven videogames, and if you cherish having a collection of finely produced games, then that's the value of The Order in a nutshell. If you're excited for a strong new IP with endless possibilities and want to see RAD put out new iterations of this level of quality, then give them the nod. I already have.

That's not really the point. The game is brimming with brilliance but it's like the story was commissioned or something.

It's puzzling. I've been super torn about it. I shouldn't have to wait for a sequel to get the cherry on top this needs.

I think we should focus on finding out what happened during the development of the game.

Did they run out of time? Where there massive rewrites? Maybe they had this huge vision that ended up getting hugely compromised. Because there's a smoking gun and that's how bold and confident the scriptwriting is. Really good dialogue that sadly falls flat.

Edit:

And also the acting and direction are top fucking notch, so it makes absolutely zero sense. I'm so torn I'm getting whiplash. Lol

I better just let it slide for a while until more people provide their takes.

holy fuck this guy has no clue that he's playing a cinematic piece of shit.  bad at gameplay and story...at this point the only thing he appreciates are the graphics, voice acting, and the potential for a sequel or prequel that makes the first $60 game make sense and validates its existence.  Denial and bargaining :lol

I think we've found this gen's Lair.

They were already on a quest to kill Metacritic after the tepid critical response to Driveclub showed in it's metacritic and the game bombed (And the press said it was still a bad game after the weather patch which made them even more irate). See the massive championing of Eurogamer's decision to kill review scores for example. I'd imagine Lets Plays wouldn't be too far behind if it shows how bad AAA releases are.

Also now people are turning around and blaming Sony for not being up front with the length too

The game won't flop, it'll be propped up by the fanboys easily.  There hasn't been a big release in months, and with this much on the line, they'll show up in droves to make sure this is a relative success. They bought the unadulterated shitty games such as Killzone and Infamous already this gen, this game will be no different.

2) Quality over quantity? In The Order's case, perhaps finely tuned satisfying gameplay? You don't have to reinvent the wheel to be a worthwhile experience, just polish that wheel to a mirror sheen. "

Wonder how much money this 1 YT video cost RAD.

Goddam brutal.   :lol

Speaking of which...how long before Sony stans, defenders of gamer rights, champions against corporate greed...start supporting pushes to kill "let's play" content on youtube/twitch/etc. Anyone who has seen or heard about that playthrough has to think twice about buying this shitty game. So when the NPD after the next one* comes out and shows the game bombed, expect them to blame the vidoes.

*I say the next one because the first NPD for the game will get the inevitable "the game was only out for x days in the month, doesn't count!" defense

I'm honestly surprised it hasn't happened sooner.

I will, for the fist time in years, actually look at an NPD thread to see the fallout.

Hey guys I want to be super cool with you so recommend me some PS4 only games for my PS4. I don't want multiplatform games that are good. I want games ONLY on the PS4.

So how cool am bros? PS4

It's like that Simpsons episode:

- It's just a little QTE heavy it's still good. It's still good
- It's just a little short. It's still good. It's still good.
- The game play is a little bad. It's still good. It's still good.

Why is gaf defending that pos again? They usually hate the mechanics that the order has: QTE, cutscenes, linear short campaign. Funny how quick gaf is to shit on the battlefield campaigns yet defend shit like this.

because it is an exclusive game.
