why is gaf so desperate to tell us that the order is such an awesome game?

The same reason GAF was so eager to tell us that Ryse was under-rated or Killzone is such an underated frachise or Fable is an under-rated franchise, or Drive Club is such an under-rated game. There just happen to be more Sony fanboys on GAF than the other platforms.

Honestly the whole order thing seems relatively tame compared to what I remember from Killzone 2.

To be fair, GAF seems to be more Nintendo focused these days strangely.  But the Nintendo fans tend to carve themselves into little communities in the site and don't really bother others much.

Man, I usually get the opposite vibe. It's usually the Ninthings that cry the ludest about how good their latest underselling game is (creating a gazillion threads in the process), where the Sony stans actively look for singular threads to turn into a hugbox for seclusion.

Remember when Smash 3DS came out and there were three to four different threads where you could post about the same game?

why is gaf so desperate to tell us that the order is such an awesome game?

You can replace "the order" with "every tentpole first part game". Every time a new game that stans perceive as a major release (even if it's not_, a dedicated few will make sure to flood GAF with threads about every little detail related to a game. See: 135 threads with Hyrule Warriors in the title ("Dynasty Warriors", which would cover eight games + a gazillion expansions, only has 27 more threads to its name.) To this day I don't understand the point of making 21 different character trailer threads when you could just make one thread for all of them.

It's just a symptom of the problem of game development budgets that are out of control. Companies go out and put out a massive amount of hype to try and get the biggest # of sales and sell it as the end all be all to be able to compete against everyone else doing exactly the same thing. Then when it comes out and disappoints people dig in further.

You need more than one game to justify owning a 400 dollar piece of kit.
Eh, I dunno. I just need to get a certain amount of use out of it, whether that's 10 different games or 400 hours of Test Drive Unlimited.

I will say that as of right now, my XBone is smoking my PS4 in the value stakes. Don't regret buying either though.

Yeah Titanfall is dope. Dead Rising 3 is decent fun. Horizon 2 is supposed to be great. MCC is tight when it works.

Xbone has more gaems, even if they're on PC too.

Horizon 2 was the reason I haven't sold mine yet (As well as Killer Instinct Season 2) and it's getting a ton more use these days even if I mainly stick to PC. Honestly if they even started doing cross buy with the Bone and PC I'd probably keep the bone in use. Feels like it's going to become like the PS3 last gen. Less pressure to deliver massive hits so they will be more in line to go with quirky things like Screamride and Ori. I'd buy a PS4 when it starts getting the games I want but those seem in short supply and by the time Gran Turismo 7 is playable in 2017 it will be almost time for a new gen.

Wii U is gathering dust tho'. I'm in the minority but damn Smash is bad compared to what came before :tocry

i left a "the order: 1886" playthrough running on my second monitor, here's what you're all missing by not shedding the pithy 60 notes required to fill your life with excellence:

spoiler (click to show/hide)
you're the order, you fight werewolves for no discernible reason with your friends frenchman, an mentor and an female. no one exists for any other reason than to make stoic quips and spout exposition.

you fight rebels until it turns out the rebels are actually fighting against the real evil, the protected united india company, who are shipping vampires in crates all over the world for no discernible reason beyond it it being evil.

you try to murder the head of the UIC, a vampire (who is also jack the ripper! that's why nobody can find him!) and get double crossed by your the order: 1886 buddy and are put on the order: 1886 trial and sentenced to death. they are oblivious to everything going on.

you escape, return to the order: 1886 to murder the double-crosser, who is the adopted son of the head of the order: 1886 and also a werewolf. dad comes in and tells you to kill him, keep everything a secret and become batman. you do this for no discernible reason.

the end.

some of the VO is pretty okay but the writing is so clichéd and awful you can almost smell the cheesy wotsits on the valor cape and dandruff coated fedora of whoever penned it. literally anything (every single plot moving element) that happens other than "mow down geezers in the street" is either a straight up movie or a QTE addled cut-scene. the final boss is a recycled QTE encounter from the first half of the game.

Are you still in touch with Dave, Shidoshi?

Doesn't look like the GameFan relaunch panned out. :/

Last email I got from him, he was telling me how much of a freak I was, and how he never should have hired me back in the GameFan days.

To be fair, that came after I had said that he'd had to be kept in line to some degree by the other Play staff (which, I mean, was true), and how it seemed like he was thinking of making more of a push toward doing positive write-ups in exchange for ad dollars.

Dave and I are like that couple that keeps getting back together and then keeps having really messy break-ups. *heh*

Jesus, someone has actually sat down and timed the ratio of cutscenes to gameplay in that five hour YouTube playthrough of The Order. Broken it down by chapters no less. It hurts me to see a life wasted so frivolously.

The idiocy surrounding the game is so powerful that I think I'll ask for my copy in a brown paper bag. I guess I can reuse the bag next time I'm vetting potential neighbours.

Yep.

Deep Down was destined to be next in line for this kinda dicksucking but then people found out it was f2p.

Nah. Even before Deep Down was revealed to be F2P scum, I was leery about it because: Capcom.

Let's be honest though: Dark Souls 2 is weaker than both (still alright but--). That said, From wanting to charge PC users for the DirectX 11 render upgrade when CDProjectRed was able to do that for the Witcher 2 via a patch for FREE is :ufup

Also, Bloodborne is gonna be awesome as fuck and there wasn't a ton of reason to doubt Deep Down's quality after how fun Dragon's Dogma was. But then they didn't make a sequel. :|

It's probably down to the more crazed Sony fan PM'ing someone like Bish with people's posts and getting people clipped. Remember in hugbox gaming threads having a different opinion is not allowed especially when it's an exclusive game. And Sony exclusive game threads have a very bad reputation for not being the most welcoming of differing opinions.

Can't blame him. The place is a mess lately after gamergate. Ugly.

Not like you have to moderate Gamergate stuff. If I had to read Gamergate threads, I'd stop being a mod today.

Nope, afaik that's it. And yeah, EatChildren was demodded by his own request due to not having the time or desire to do much moderating.

lol, you have desire to moderate.
Given how little I actually use moderator rights, certainly not much of a desire :P

has there been an acknowledged shift in how the gaming side is treated to allow fanthings their delusions?

time was that mods would've atleast had a laugh at their expense, but now all we're left with is kev doing his best kagari circa 2008 impression. the gaming side just comes across as a humourless facade where feelings are sacrosanct and even the most sickly shill post has to be taken at face value or risk getting canned.

is it the result of apathy or instruction? PM if you don't want to put it on public record. same goes for steve if he reads this.

If there has been, nobody told me.

If that is the case, and I can't say I know whether it is or not since I only read a handful of gaming threads, it is not the result of instruction.

You better hope EviLore isn't reading this. He might reduce your pay.
