The 8 bit and 16 bit fetishism needs to die.
I love it if its done right (Shovel Knight, MM9-10 for instance), but too many developers either:
-use ugly, inconsistent, minimal-effort 8-bit art just to jump on the trend... there's good pixel art and bad pixel art regardless of the tech limitations you put on yourself.
-forget what made those classic 8-bit games so good
-put in a bunch of modern flourishes (checkpoint-heavy "super challenging" games, loot systems) that feel out of place
One thing I do dislike are indies with minimal pastel-hued graphics and stick figure character design with 1-pixel wide extremities (such as Swords and Sorcery). Or... it's genre X, but now its a roguelike! (I never cared for roguelikes even when they were current).
I do tend to mostly play older games myself, but there's still the occasional thing that comes out that interests me. Even if its been less and less in recent times... my friends though (some of whom are younger than me) are completely opposed to anything newer than the DC/PS2

Amir0x has a well paid job. Him getting a brand new console from a random gaffer is suspicious.
I am honestly shocked that, considering how many times he's posted about where he works, no Neogaffer with a mean streak reported some of his antics to them.
