At one end you had fog about 5 metres away form your cockpit but the framerate was silky smooth, or at the other you could see a fair bit further but framerate dropped. Playing it you always felt that one way or another you were compromised. Players shouldn't need to feel that way on a fixed spec console. Devs should maximise it for best performance all round and that should be that.

But these options let us choose the post-process stuff that costs little in performance, but can sometimes really turn people off (or on).
Adjusting the field of view and 'head movement' is also a really good option in a driving game, since we will all have a personal preference.

I don't want to spend the first hour running benchmarks to decide if enabling HBAO+ is worth having or if it causes too many framerate drops.
