Here's my final take on Mirror's Edge after having a long love-hate relationship with it:

on the first playthrough, the game has incredibly sloppy design.  there are a lot of places where it's unclear where you need to go so you basically are a rat in a maze.  that stupid no shooting achievement is almost irresistible to attempt but makes the game a lot more frustrating when you don't know the level layouts.

after the first playthrough, when you know exactly where you need to go, the game feels very good to play and is very fun for speed runs.  there are still parts that don't work so well but it's a far better experience on every playthrough except the first.

i'd hesitate to call a game that has level design like that "good", but i'd also hesitate to call a game that feels as good to speed run as that "bad".  i'm just going to call it a mixed bag that only gets better the more you play it, which makes it clear why some people are very attached to it.  it's the FF8 of platformers.

POPGAF is the lightining rod of eccentricity the rest of GAF needs to shit on in order to not realize that they do essentially the same shit. A good amount of them (SecretMoblin/Satch come to mind) are good posters who usually check their shtick at the door when they post in other threads.
