After several weeks of dealing with bureaucratic nonsense, my 401k withdrawal is finally being dispersed this week.

Now my film company is a real company, with seed-stage investment capital and everything. :D No turning back now.

After ~6 months of planning for it here and there, I've settled on May 1st being the date I officially found my film production LLC. :D

Will make working with others a bit easier, I hope. And it just makes things feel more legit.

If I have to wind it down, I totally accept it. But until then I'm gonna make a run at things.

Oh yeah btw while I was gone over the summer I did this ^ and then hired two independent contractors. :D Currently producing a short horror animation for Halloween. :D

I enjoy Trello. :)

All I can do is write and make stick-figure storyboards, but that's enough for my contractors.  :american

Work sent me two 27" UHD 4K monitors.

...these things are gorgeous.

Only have one working right now. My supposed 4K DisplayPort cable does not drive this monitor. :-/ Tried to figure out how to daisychain them, failed, waiting on a 1.8 meter cable to activate dual-screen goodness.

Tried out the refund thing on XBox for Battlefield 2042 and it worked. After years of Playstation's no refunds ever bullshit, it was kind of amazing. Like being released from a cellar or something

I have a mild RSI from over-use of a mouse scroll-wheel of all things. I have pain whenever I try to use a scroll-wheel for more than a couple hours.

The ideal fix is a touchpad like laptops have, but most of the Windows ones are unresponsive and/or overpriced. Apple's touchpad has spoiled me rotten, both in hardware build and responsiveness.

My last two companies have provided Microsoft Arc Mouse as a solution. It has a touch surface instead of physical buttons. I decided to buy my own. Amazon Japan is selling them for JPY 8000-11000, but they also had a lavender colored one that was 20% off, so now I have a tiny purple friend. Its name is Prince Nelson.

Are you planning to use something with a non-Windows device?  Not sure how the arc mouse may work if it's Chrome OS.  I can test it for you if you'd like.

Was looking into getting something for my Chromebook Duet, but the only trackpad that seems to be recommended or work properly is Apple's, and the price is ridiculous.  So just been using a cheapo Logitech pebble mouse.  I picked up an arc mouse and a nice keyboard on sale last year for work, but haven't been back to the office since so they've just been sitting here unused.  Maybe it's time to use them in place of what's here now.

Yeah that's the only thing, it's gotta work with Linux and MS are dicks about that.

I'm still pissed they cancelled the Chrome OS-specific Brydge touchpad, but now that I'm migrating from Chrome OS to Linux proper that stings a bit less.

~ Film/animation studio Q1 2022 updates ~

- Sent 1099s in the mail to my two contractors I worked with last year, feels extremely cool to pay someone, like, officially
- Contacted those two again and we're due to resume full production on our first project (currently halfway finished) on March 7th
- Need to submit payment for my company's yearly fees to the state soon
- Putting the finishing touches on the 2022 revision of our business plan
- Production on this first project (horror animation) should wrap by June, then we'll submit to festivals - I'm hoping some are held in October, in which case I'd attend in person 🎃
- Broke ground on writing a new project a few days ago, had it in my head for years and I'm very excited, with any luck it's what my team will move onto after this one
- I'm planning on pitching some of my Boston startup friends on projects for investment in the second half of the year, so I need to lock my shit down and stay focused 😤

Gonna throw a big party in June on the founding anniversary cause I'm corny like that.  8)

It's not the triumph of the day but the culmination of a very long process that took months but ended pretty great, with some caveats.

When my grandma died on November 2020 we discovered that she did a credit on the family house (my great grandfather/grandmother had it constructed on the 40s), which had generated massive interest (121k given over 15 years, 129k interest). I went to speak with the bank, but it didn't go that well on the first exchange. Second exchange they offered to lower the debt to 190k, but I said that I didn't agree as it wasn't the price for current market at all. So I went with an official appraiser through the bank and he said the house was worth 150k. What caught me by surprise is the fact they offered to lower it to 120k, an 80% of the appraisal since that's the max banks usually give. So then the quest to find a bank that could remortgage began. I went with the bank I've been with my whole life, but they only gave me 72.5k (because... well, 2020 wasn't a good year and that's the only thing they took into account). My mom had to lend me money, and so did my friends, but I gathered a down payment of 45k, and they settled for 117.500€. The interest rate is a fixed 1.5% (as long as I have the qualifying  perks like home insurance, life insurance, etc) so it's pretty good!

So the tl;dr is: I recovered the family home for much less than I expected! it needs renovations but I'm suuuuper happy now that everything's signed.

Last November, after my mother's house sale went through, I started the process to cancel my mom's Brinks Home Security contract. They have an automated phone system that lets you get five levels in before telling you they're closed for the day. When I eventually got through, I was told the easiest way to get it canceled was to write a paper mail which I did.

I recently noticed that they were still charging my mom's bank account for the service, 5 months later. I was irate. I called and got caught in the phone thing again. I woke up at 6AM JST to reach their office, and sat on hold until their business hours ended, and I'm pretty sure they'd have let me sit on hold until they reopened. No message, no nothing. I called several more times, looked up the CEO's email address (handled by their AA, it turns out) and posted an accusatory tweet.

Yesterday, the CEO's AA got back to me, and today I received a confirmation email that the account is closed and they're refunding my mom's money back to November, when I initiated the cancellation.

Thanks. Yeah, this is the first place I've dealt with that's worse than infamous COMCAST.

I didn't mention that they requested a signed letter on mom's retirement home official letterhead to prove that she lived there now, and not in the house. Motherfuckers, she's your customer. She doesn't report to you. :maf

I've been paying for my kids' high school college in Japan, but had left their stateside educational savings alone. I've finally initiated a wire transfer to bring the money to Japan, and thanks to the world's tomfoolery the JPY is at its weakest in 20 years, so my kids money is worth about 20-25% more than normal.

My imposter partner disconnected at start. 9v1.

I managed to kill 4 and get the rest voted out, all while I was not once suspected. Had I not killed the last guy, I could have called a meeting and gotten them to vote each other off.

Another perfect Among Us.

15 ppl lobby, 3 imposters. Set for speed. Short kill timer, and limited tasks, so a race against the clock.

My first partner bails randomly quickly in. My second partner is a coward. I find him hiding in comms half the time.

Everyone else is engineer, so every room with a vent is a room with potential eyes.

My only ally? Door. Shut the door, kill someone in hallway, run. Over and over again.

Rose is unlucky, finds the body not twice, but three times.

Tan is camping cams, and thats ok. After every kill I made sure to make myself visible on cams. He vouched for me every time.

Call comms sabotage. Escort tan over. But when everyone breaks, kill the guy who lags, and then quickly back to cams.

Rose basically caught me, but at that point, all sus was on lime and rose. Tan vouches for me. Tie vote.

Final round I kill rose as we all walk over. No one ever suspected little old me.
