Also speaking of things that spiral out of control, I almost like TDKR the most right up until Bane takes over the city or I guess rather the part where he breaks Batman's back.
The heist is great, and better setup and directed than all of The Dark Knight's similar scenes. It's arguably got the best Batman debut in the films even with the dumb cops commentary.
There's a similar aspect to parts of the first half of The Dark Knight in which it's a crime/heist film that includes Batman before it gets too caught up its own ass chasing some greater meaning.
The Avengers was sorta better in the first half too, nobody knows how to end movies I guess. On the other hand, I'd rather pick up Man of Steel in the middle once Zod and his crew show up. Both those have redeemable action scene value simply due to the marvels of modern technology. The fake tracking shots in Avengers that move between all the characters in the battle are neato. (I also like the semi-one with Lois and Russell Crowe's Ghost Dad in the Kryptonian ship.)
