cam'ron's whole ... schtick? facade? actual personality? was amusing for me since he successfully managed to be a 'tough guy' street-aspirations rapper dude (Whips on my fists, houses on my wrists, Your budget on my neck, your spouse on my dick)  but combined it with goofy rhymes (I get computers putin :dead) so the whole effect is a jux that sounded like he was watching tv the whole time and cashing checks. at it's best it's a pretty compelling combo of superficial swag whip tunes, at it's worst it just sounds empty and annoying.

And therein lies the reason why white hipsters love him so much, he's unserious, you don't really need to like hip hop or take it seriously as an artform in order to like him. He's a jester, a clown. A minstrel show :hitler

Side note: I hate that people seem to be so down on Life After Death :fbm , I love that album, it's so smooth and luxurious and big budget. It might not be super deep but I'll be damned if it isn't a paid vacation to Vegas on wax.

Man, I don't get this at all. Sure, it's 'moronic - it's still far from the bottom of the barrel when it comes to dumb rap. I don't really get why being substanceless is a hugh detraction anyway, for rap or any other kind of music for that matter. Dipset was huge in my high school, which was pretty suburbanite but definitely not 'hipster' at all. I've also always had the sense that Cam is fairly well regarded from my conversations with fellow rap nerds and from other boards I've posted on. Who can hate on shit like "I Hate My Job"?

I get what you're saying. I'd never really hear people ranking Cam like that, but he seems to get respect. I think he's got a little more substance than Riff Raff, though comparing anyone to Riff Raff is kind of skewed since he's kind of a singularity

The best way to describe Cam after Children of the Corn is "bugged out".

In others words, Dipeset fans.

:rofl :jawalrus :rofl

I kid, I kid. That's enough hip hop head trolling for one day.

Don't take anything I said except the first post seriously. I'm a casual rap fan at best.

Oh for sure, he's not the first of his kind. Embellishing your bonafides and exaggerating your persona are time honored traditions, but he's really committed to it and thrown his whole life into his character. The dude got an MTV tattoo on his neck before had even gotten on the show. There are plenty of Rick Rosses, but not many (if any) rappers have been willing to intentionally make themselves as much of a spectacle as Riff Raff. It would have been nice if he figured out how to make interesting music somewhere along the line, though.

Thinking of it, I think Tupac was trans. If not gay, definitely still lgbt. The signs are all there, but the signs remind me of a trans individual than a strictly gay one. his over masculinity reminds me a lot of mtf individuals. Over half of mtfs I know were originally in the military before transitioning. They'd lift weights and try to appear as macho as possible to show to the world and themselves that they don't really want to wear a skirt and have boobs. If Tupac were gay, he'd have an outlet to express this , especially among his LA circle of seemingly gay artists (lovers, being on the down low like Queen Latifah, Dre).  Lots of famous people have been gay and have successfully hidden it, so the over masculinity just tells me there was more to it than just sexuality. Being frustrated and going more and more into the role of trying to appear hard by doing more and more extreme things as he gets older also falls in line with the trans narrative.

I'm convinced of it. :obama

Dre

:leon I didn't think there was anything supporting those rumors besides this.

I guess he wouldn't be the first gay dude to marry and have kids to conceal his identity.
