I'm 18 hours in and still doing lots of side quests, missing 2 companions: druid and paladin. Since I'm maining paladin, doubt I'll use her on this playthrough. Kind of regret not going with rogue as my main tbh.

Apparently I over-committed to the Dozens, so now I can't continue helping the Crucible Knights. I'm also on house Doemenel's bad side, but I saw that coming. Fuck those guys, anyway.

Question about you stronghold: how useful are the dungeons? Can I lock up story NPCs in lieu of slaughtering them on the spot? When the conversation goes that way, I mean.

I'm thinking about setting aside the main quest and heading back down into the Endless Path for a while. I left off on Level 6 after coming up against some tough enemies and then running out of camping supplies.

the door that requires 3 emblems. I found 2 of the emblems in their respective sarcophagus, but the third sarcophagus was busted

One of the emblems was already found by a member of the expedition that went in sometime before you. I don't remember what level I found it on, but it was probably 2 or 3 and it was on a dead body.

ah so i can (in the future) adjust antialiasing. nice. maybe i can jack it up to 1600x1400 or whatever then. tho not mentioned, hopefully some stability tweaks are dropped into the os x version, it's getting crash happy on autosave.

Yeah, kinda saw this coming. I just used it mostly trivialize a fight against a big-ass Drake with it. I wonder if it still affects flying enemies though.

I hope Pellagina is affected. Her stats look pretty bad.

Didn't have 12 mechanics, nor a key to open one of the two doors, so I had to drag my party across the spike pit on the 9th floor.

After I made it to the other side, I realized I was out of camp site kits, so I had to keep pushing forward while being super cautious with my party's health pools. By the grace of some indeterminate deity, I found a kit in one of the webs after clearing out the crystal spiders. Lasted me until I reached the shortcut out.

No, I left those turned off so I wouldn't be tempted to min-max. For a while I let it show the speech checks I didn't meet, but since it merely (and rightly) only reveals the relevant stat and not what the dialogue would have been, I've turned those off as well. It just cluttered up the dialogue box.

Been playing all day. Made it to down to level 11(?) of the Endless Paths and now I'm stumped*. There was something much earlier that makes me wonder, too, but I have no idea how to interact with it**.

*There are spirits I can't talk to (yet?) and that mysterious door which needs some kind of passphrase. Do you learn Engwithan as part of the main quest?

**The statue of the previous lord of Caed Nua. I figure you put a/his sabre in his hand to open the secret door outside the room, but I don't have it.

Took about 46 hours. Good story and the best implementation of RTWP combat yet. Did have some gripes tho (will put in spoilers just to be safe).

-Obsidian blew their load on Defiance Bay. Twin Elms was a massive letdown in comparison. It seemed much smaller and had less content.
-I didn't like the level cap. I lost most of my motivation to complete side quests after hitting level 12. Also, bounties gave more exp than side quests which was a real wtf. I would have preferred bounty exp get nerfed and/or the level cap raised.
-The only side characters I liked were Durance and Eder. Everyone else felt boring.
-Petrify is B R O K E N. Dragons and the last boss of the game shouldn't die in 3 hits because I cast petrify.

Definitely Obsidian's best game yet, but Baldur's Gate 2 was better.

And finished. Great game indeed. Might re-play this soon, but with dev-commentary on. I hope their implementation doesn't suck.

My Rogue worked out really well. Killed the most enemies and did the most damage out of everyone. I didn't miss backstabbing in the end, since sneak attacks are so powerful. Setting up a backstab for every encounter would have been pretty tedious anyway. I went with dual-wielding for the attack speed bonus and tried to stack interrupt chance, so that once the enemies were engaged I could circle around and pick off casters and ranged without them being able to do much of anything. Whenever I wasn't blocking doorways with Edér and shooting anyone trying to get through...

One thing that hasn't been mentioned here before is how readily your companions accept some revelations at the end. Felt too simple, really. Also the way Hiravias speaks is just weird, I'm not actually sure f it's intentional or not.

I started a Cipher playthrough on hard. From all I've heard about Ciphers it will probably end up feeling like a normal playthrough. Gonna try relying on guns to recharge focus. I'm gonna max my weapon slots and fill them with guns, then rotate through instead of reloading.

I hope there'll be a detailed quest guide soon, because I've forgotten which rewards are worth the time.

my 4 year old son loves navigating the dudes around the map; too bad he has poor tactical skills, keeps getting murked by evil druids or whatever they are.

i have like 40 hours of playtime on steam but have only managed a few hours of gameplay

is it just me or is that ranger chick totally useless? her dog get knocked the fuck out like immediately, and she doesn't really do much of anything either. replaced her with a rogue and am much happier.

yeah i'm probably going to hire some dudes for my murder squad. eder is ok but he needs to be a tank-pull machine, and I need another damage soaker. was playing with a monk and they seem ok.

and yeah my rogue is a good wizard killer. i just blank her out and send her up and cripple them bitches. the backstab/hobble damage bonus is craycray.

edit: oh if you want to check for gaping holes in your lineup try those warden bounties at level 4. jesus.

I did the bounties after I was finished with Od Nua, so rolled through most of them. The third tier ones actually put up quite a fight even for a max level party. They give insane XP. Shame the level cap is 12. I wanna say the loot is good, too, but I don't remember where I got most of my stuff. :/

not only did he neglect many supplicants needing escort, but most of my party is dead. such is life. he seems to be having fun killing dragons (now that I've turned on god mode), so it's not a full loss.

so i had a bleary eyed plan to pwn a large enemy by stacking a miasma (wizard), paralysing spell (cipher) and then dominating him (cipher) so he woke up under my control... worked per the debuff list, but as soon as he stopped being paralysed, the domination wore off. wtf? dude was supposed to be mine for 14 seconds. $:-\$

needless to say my cipher, which has to be within a few feet to pull off a domination, was crushed immediately

also I've found the priest halt and withdrawal spell to be quite useful in conjunction with the cipher. just line up some halted bros in front of your hidden tank dudes and use the cipher's beam shit to decimate. also making the rogue invisible and having her run back and forth with your beam zappin motherfuckers works too. hmm.

They wouldn't be so bad if they couldn't teleport. Aloth used to get killed by them a lot before I stopped being lazy and manually repositioned everyone much further from Edér when he pulled them.

Nuke them with spells if you can. There'll be even worse kinds later on.

Not really. The big revelation creeps up on you but it still feel weird the way it resolves. This is more BG1 than it is BG2.
