You know what you do if you're sitting around waiting?  Take some initiative and fucking ask someone or just dive into paperwork/literature yourself.

My first two weeks at my new job were very much "um, well, here's your desk...and, uh, go ahead and ask questions if you have them."

So I asked questions, made my bosses sit down with me, went over documentation and literature, and participated in early meetings to learn more.  THATS WHAT YOU'RE SUPPOSED TO DO.

Funniest intern shit I saw: we had a guy who seemed to be learning at a decent rate, nothing spectacular...but everyone liked him. I couldn't figure it out. I saw him fuck some things up and people were like "oh it's no prob,  you'll learn." Usually interns never got that type of treatment.

I don't disagree that the Republicans are more of a threat to transgender people in the short term. And I do agree with the sentiment that some people use the "both parties are the same" fallacy to justify political apathy without regard to how certain policies might affect vulnerable people. For the record, I would rather have a Democrat in office than a Republican any day.

But I also think there is a "both parties are the same fallacy" fallacy where people shut down any discussion of the ways both parties do uphold oppressive structures for the benefit of the ruling class. All one has to do is shout "You just think both parties are the same!!!" and that's it; the other person has been written off as implicitly supporting the Republican Party.

It's not as though the Democrats are sincerely nice people who totally believe in equality and the evil Republicans are all just bigots. The Republicans only support transphobic legislation like this because it appeals to their reactionary voter base. Democrats only support anti-discrimination bills because it appeals to their liberal voter base that sincerely believes in equality.

Of course, the Democrats won't actually do anything to bring about true equality by dismantling the systemic inequality which created transphobia in the first place. They'll just offer band-aid solutions that give transgender the equal right to participate in an inequal system.

The transgender people who will benefit most from the laws that Democrats pass are those who are wealthier and usually white. Let's not forget that poverty more severely affects transgender people than the general population. What benefit is an anti-discrimination bill in housing to a trans person who can't afford to pay rent anyway? What good do equal rights in employment do for those who's dysphoria and associated mental illnesses are so intense that they cannot work? What good are anti-discrimination bills in business to trans people who can't afford to buy anything anyway?

What transgender people need the most is medical intervention to make their bodies right for themselves, and therapy to heal the mental scars from the depression and anxiety that so commonly come with being trans. Democrats meanwhile do not support universal free health care which so many poor trans people desperately need. Homeless transgender youth disowned by their families are entitled to a steady home to call their own; Democrats uphold the inhumane system in which people must have money or live on the streets.

This isn't to say that there can't be some benefit to the kinds of legislation Democrats might pass in service of transgender issues, especially when it comes to changing public perception. But we shouldn't fall into the trap of thinking that Democrats are actually on our side. Their legislation only offers band-aid solutions to problems that they themselves preserve and will continue to preserve.

They won't address the root causes of these problems because that is against the interests of the class who's interests they serve. And in that regard they are the same as the Republicans.




If Democrats really cared about dismantling transphobia and other oppressive systems that come with patriarchy then they would work towards building a society where class and privilege don't exist. They are doing exactly the opposite by serving the interests of the wealthy and strengthening their privilege. The issues of patriarchy and racism and all other social injustices cannot be separated from the economic injustice which allows them to flourish in the first place.

Obviously I thought the performance was amazing, as did most people, and of course TPAB was my AOTY. But jeez can we stop acting like not liking rap is some indictment of black people? Why is it hard to understand that old people don't like rap? And old people and rock musicians tend to be the Grammy voters. It's not a coincidence that the two rap albums to ever win the AOTY Grammy were very pop and r&b influenced (Speakerboxx/Love Below and the Miseducation Of Lauryn Hill). Lots of melody and radio hits on those albums. TPAB doesn't have much of either.

Guess what: old black people don't like rap either. I can imagine Stevie Wonder loved it, Quincy Jones did as well and they both are Grammy voters. But overall I don't believe most older black voters picked TPAB.

I hate to say it but I sort of sympathize with this ... the first 1-2 weeks of starting at a new position and waiting for the permissions you need to do your job to get approved and propagate through the system are my most hated part of #corporatelife. That's life in the big city, and I wouldn't quit over it or anything, but I kind of miss my small company days when I would, like, already have a bunch of working scripts to automate one of their manual processes within the first day. Or maybe my dev chops were just better back then too.

I also think it's over written - I appreciate a good story and the skill it takes to tell them but I think often this game mistakes long meandering exposition with good storytelling. In fact it often gets in the way.

And don't even talk to me about the end. After repeated crashes in the very last mission which meant i had to start from an old save I got the 'bad' ending because of series of choices I made - none of which I though were selfish at all. Especially the fact it turns out for a good ending you basically need to get one of the girls in the game to want to hang out with you. I had no idea this is what was required there is no hints at this, no suggestion of thats what Gerald wants.

I nearly threw the PS4 out the window when after 80 hours I got the bad ending.

 

Type of person that thinks about throwing the PS4 out the window over a video game ending surprised his choices where not considered good.

Long story short; 3 weeks ago I visited my sister. My nephew will turn 9 this week and he owns a WiiU and a 3DS + all quality Ninty games like Smash, MK8, Mario 3D World, and so on. Last summer he was fully commited to Splatoon. After 4 weeks he was able to become better at it than me. Everything was fine in little Henry's gaming childhood...I thought.

Xmas eve comes around and the forces of darkness strech out their cold hands to grab his innocent soul. In other words, he got an Ipad mini. So, three weeks ago we started to play Smash like we always used to do, then suddenly after 4 matches little Henry turns to his uncle (me) and says something I will never forget: 'This is boring, I want to do something else'.

Ok, 'something else' could have meant 'let's go outside and play some ball' or 'let's play some LEGO', but sadly this is not what he was trying to say. Instead, little Henry climbed up onto his bed, grabbed his Ipad mini and started to play Minecraft. Alone!

In this situation my age and maturity were pretty helpful and I didn't waste a second on sentimentality, instead I grabbed my 5 year old niece and forced her gently to play Smash with me. I have options.
