I could look through Steam and do a stuff I played this year list.
Axiom Verge - It's Metroid but it's not. Lots of cool subversive power ups and shit. Lots of time spent not knowing exactly where to go when you have a lot of space open to you. Which I guess is what Metroid is/was. So yeah. A somewhat interesting story as well.
Brothers - A Tale of Two Sons. This game ends the stupid 'are games art' debate with a yes. Anyone that thinks otherwise hasn't played this. Put it in front of them and strap them to a chair for a few hours and once they're done tell them they're going to shut the fuck up now, cause this game shuts those people the fuck up. Really cool control scheme where each duder is controlled by one of your analog sticks and they have varying actions which are performed by their respective trigger buttons. This is on the level of Miyazaki/Team Ico type stuff, and I don't even particularly dig Team Ico's work, it's just the best obvious comparison I can think of. Seriously it's $1.49 on Steam right now. This is a work that I feel is worth evangelizing as much as Bully if not more. PLAY IT.
Double Dragon Neon - It's goofy hyper '80s Double Dragon at first blush, then it turns out it's goofy '80s and early '90s literally every side scroller beat 'em up at the same time! I've not even played an hour but it's amusing shit for aging shitlords like this forum's populace.
Dynasty Warriors 8 XL CE - It's Dynasty Warriors. We have a thread for this. You know what it is.
Garry's Mod - Some of my Squad like to play Trouble in Terrorist Town and Prop Hunt during maints of our main jam. I don't do fps stuff much so i tend to be a total shit and die lots but this is fun times with bros anyway.
Goat Simulator - It's GOAT
Jigoku Kisetsukan - Sense of the Seasons - A 2hu style bullet hell dealy that is a bit challenging to see cause it's a cropped image on my already smallish craptop screen. A cool time for literally $0.
Long Live the Queen - A visual novel where you have to build various stats in order to survive which are affected by the type of mood your would be queen is. In the time I played tried to keep her balanced and centered or in the 'positive' side of the various moods only to find that would make her learn certain skills very slowly or not at all! The first I've encountered such a mechanic. So there's more to this than just

Nekopara -
Phantasy Star Online 2 - Is coming to the US officially! But only in anime form. Some peeps that play(ed) this lots with me are possibly going to be hitting up Blade and Soul and possibly Black Desert Online so maybe this will get semi-abandoned in the new year or at least played a bit less. Have been putting an excessive amount of time into it during my quarter break.

Rogue Legacy - I played this in January a bit apparently. Never finished but a good retro wander around aimlessly and build your dude up thing. I think I'd need to replay it with how I'm gonna do my tree planned out in order to do well and finish the damn thing.
Sakura Clicker - Do you want to click anime titties? Well then you want to play this. If you don't, then you don't.
Skullgirls - they took away a pantsu shot in an update ruined by SJWs 0/10. Nah this is another one of those games where I do not know wtf I am doing since the last time I was remotley into fightan games was the PSX days but it's fun to try and hang against buds.
Sanic & Sega All Stars Racing Transformed - Gotta go fast. It's Mario Kart but on every console and PC! Which is great for people that dig them some karting but don't have the latest Ninty offering
...turns out I played more than I thought I did this year. Nothing super current though.
