This is the best Pokémon game.

Haven't played enough to form a concrete opinion yet, but I definitely think it's the best "new gen" games in the entire series for new and lapsed fans. XY were already really geared toward Red/Blue supremacists but this game goes even further with it (Alolan forms, Red/Green, etc.) There's a crazy amount of handholding, which also contributes, but it also streamlines a whole lot and hides the complex bits for the post game. The removal of HM's is long overdue and exceedingly welcome.

I'm imagining the Diamond/Pearl remakes in the NX version of this engine and I'm busting a nut. :lawd

What's the best way to catalog legendaries from the opposite version? Online battles?

Quote
Nintendo of America has announced that Pokémon Sun and Moon have become the fastest-selling games that Nintendo has ever launched in the Americas, with 3.7 million combined units sold in under two weeks.

Nintendo pointed out that the brisk sales pace represents an 85 percent increase over Pokémon X and Pokémon Y, which were the previous record holders for Nintendo's fastest-selling games. For those keeping track, Pokémon-related software has sold more than 280 million units worldwide since launching with the Pokémon Red Version and Pokémon Blue Version games in 1996.

No one else cares but Game Freak confirmed that Mega Stones are out for the VGC 2017 format (the official competitive ruleset.)

Also all Pokemon used have to have been caught or bred in Alola and exist in the Alola Pokedex (as opposed to the National Pokedex, which contains every Pokemon to date.) Of the 802 Pokemon introduced, only 300 will be usable in official tournaments (the Alola Pokedex numbers 302 but it also has two Mythical Pokemon, which are banned.)

This means I get Raichu but not Togekiss or Hydreigon, my other faves. :'(

Ah well, will be fun to learn the newbies.

It never really matters much tbh. Sun follows the real-time clock while Moon is offset by 12 hours, so if you're a night owl you'll probably appreciate Moon more.

^Eventually even that doesn't matter though, as after a certain point you can switch between night and day.
I'm not kidding about that slowbro btw, let's get our kings on

I have some questions.  I really enjoyed Omega Ruby but B/W, B/W2 and X/Y have all been pretty average IMO.

How is the post game?
Is Mega Evolution still a thing?  Can I still use my mega stones?
How soon into the game could I transfer stuff from the Bank?
Now that the game is mostly 3D, can I actually see my pokemon when I'm surfing?  Or does the player still ride an indistinguishable blob?

I have not been following the game.  Apologies for my uber newb questions.

Dunno, but I've heard it's in-line with the first games of the other gens (see: pretty light.)

Yes, but not in official tournies. Z-Moves and Z-Crystals are the new hotness.

Sun and Moon haven't been enabled for Bank yet (will sometime next month I think.)

HM's are no longer a thing. Instead you get 6(?) "ride Pokemon" that are specific: Charizard for flying, Lapras for surfing, Stoutland for hidden item sniffing (AKA dousing machine), Tauros instead of a bike, etc. You see these Pokemon in the overworld while you're riding on them.

They don't count toward the Pokedex, don't take up team space, and you don't actually catch them - they're given to you like an item is.

Very nice, thank you!  So the new z-moves/z-crystals work alongside mega evolutions in the single player?

I might wait for the Bank to open up but the game sounds good otherwise.

Yes. But at the same time there's no "Mega Ring" or whatever it was called in X/Y, so you can't Mega Evolve until post-game (so far from what I've played) but Z-moves are able to be used provided you meet the conditions and have the stone.

Don't bother waiting, the base game has a bunch of Gen-1 forms, but there's some new ones in there that are worth using. The trading-NPC Bounceed or whatever it's called has been pretty solid.
